2nd hand K1.8 - how much??

Hi all

Just thought I'd ask for some educated guesses on what you could expect to pay for a good, running second hand K1.8? Certainly more knowledgable than me anyhow...:p

I know I could ask "how long is a piece of string", but hopefully there's a ball park. I've seen a car that needs a motor and I'm just figuring out if it's worth doing or not.

Td4 yes, any petrol fl1 just not worth a w*nk :( you will fix and then it will die. So resale value isn't that high. People can't give them away in England but knowing aus they probably still go for decent money

I saw a post on the forum recently where someone (Lazmuler) had adapted a Toyota engine, 1.8 litre 7aFE , using the Freebie ECU and wiring.

I think that staying with the 1.8K engine you will be flogging a dead horse but if you do a search through the FL1 section someone recently put up a post on an issue and they had successfully replaced the K engine with a Toyota motor and apparently it worked.

If the car on ebay is the one you are looking at then the asking price would be reasonable - noting that the Freelander is a great car in diesel form and the petrols are mainly let down by their engines.

In addition to the engine I would be checking the IRD and the VCU as thes can be problematic.

Unfortunately the FL 1 with 1.8 petrol will go down in history as the biggest lemon Land Rover ever built. The engine has a history of over heating.
Lots are advertised on various media like Ebay, people trying to off load them to the unsuspecting with "all it needs is a head gasket."
The 4wd is often disabled making them front wheel drive only, excuses are done for ecomony. Real reason the rear wheel drive unit is broken and too costly to repair.
The diesels are a different story
