Made the mistake of putting a pack of frozen prawn bait in the Waeco .

some of the black liquid got out of the bag and dribbled onto the fridge floor.

now it stinks every time I open it, have cleaned it out with pineoclean, left it open overnight, cleaned it again & even poured some vanilla essence in ,

its ok now for beer but my wife wont drink anything out of the fridge as its still on the nose. she wants me to chuck it out & buy a new fridge ( local camping shop in Longreach only has Engels, so might oblige)

anyone got remedy for off prawn stink,

btw - never caught a fish either, so much for beginners luck.

thanks ..Don

Try using a strong bleach (eg Domestos). Don't forget to clean the lid and the basket too.

Sit a couple of dishes of bi-carb soda in the fridge - the powder absorbes the smell. Takes a while but does work.
Don't ask me how I know :o

Incisor's idea of the vanilla essence is the most important item after the thorough cleaning.

My wife reckons that lemon essence is better again than vanilla essence.

Had prawn juice leak into my car carpet once - unbelievable stink. Bi carb soda is good and made a noticeable difference very quickly but it did take time to completely eliminate the smell.

Thanks for the tips, Will bleach tomorrow, and try both vanilla and lemon essence. and sprinkle with bicarb for good measure.

fingers crossed.

Coles sell the bi-carb in 1kg packs as well as the smaller ones.

I'd put bi-carb mixed with a little water to make a medium to thickish paste, spread all over the engel.Leave overnight then wash it out with about 1/2 vinegar and water.
Leave to dry in sun.
The bi-carb is good at cleaning, the vinegar is good at disinfecting and getting rid of odours.

Try that.. :D
