Seems one of the simplest upgrades you can do along with uprated headlamp bulbs, and a foam filter...but are they worth the expense??

Don't use those foam filters mate unless you realy realy hate your donk. And I was wondering the same thing about hoses

Yeah l've heard they are too porous, i have a hat snorkel but I'll stick with the paper ones. A lot cleaner :)

If by "upgrade", you mean fitting a part that will probably last longer than the original, they I think they may be worth it.
If by "upgrade", you mean something that will improve the performance, then the answer is you will only get an improvement if your current hoses are leaking or delaminating.
Replacing perfectly good original hoses with silicone makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to the performance.
OTOH, I fitted black silicone hoses. Maybe the red ones make you go faster. :p

my 2 Terrafirma silicone hoses cost half the price of original LR hoses and are better construction and wont split or delaminate - go figure.....

As the guys posted before, just one of those things you replace with better and cheaper options when due. Your car is an 08 (?), so they are about 5 years old and there won't be any harm in preventative maintenance by replacing them.
Just don't expect any performance improvement as vnx205 posted...

LOL - what was I thinking... I thought they must give you a small margin by not getting as hot or something! Preventative maintenance Lou with the red ones is a good call :)

apart from the foam filters being a waste of money, (The paper elements flow more than enough for our purposes,) they do stuff up your MAF sensor in no time.

They also last a lot longer when rubbing against things. Obviously you don't want any hoses rubbing against anything but it does happen and when one is out in the middle of nowhere its better to have a hose that will last longer!
If going through the trouble of boost hoses I'd go for coolant too. Car will run without boost in limp mode but nothing can run without coolant!
Can be a lot cheaper to go direct to a manufacturer with measurements too, used to do that for performance cars when I was a dyno operator and it cut the price down by at least 25% usually.
