Doing the price quote dance on the phone today for a D2 windscreen
A mate of mine up near the boarder middle of no where just had one fitted $260 for a D2 ,
Im thinking in the burbs of Melb ill beat that price and the first place I rang which I have dealt with in the past for a Deefer screen or 2 and what I thought were a great price and to deal with and with in a stone throw distance , Knocked me off my chair  the nice man says oh $460.00 for one of those:censored:
Now the second place I ring 40ks away $260 fitted at your place ;) Come on $200 difference in one call , What are these people on im sick of the get rich quick mentality of some
I know you can barter with some but with that much of a price difference I would,nt have bothered spending the cost of a call to give them the pleasure:cool:
Not hard to tell who got the job:angel:

Just went through the same thing. Got prices from $480 (standard) to $980 (heated) for a screen for the L322 from most places. Ended up paying $260 fitted at where the car is parked at SWMBO work - easy.
Seems that $260 is the going rate at the moment...:D

This has been discussed quite few times in the D2 forum.
You might want to double check on what each mob is quoting on.
Some fitters will quote on a genuine Pilkington screen which has a light overall tint to reduce solar load in the cabin. The low ball quotes will be either a completely untinted screen or only have a sun visor band of tinting and be sourced from a generic manufacturer.
The other thing to factor is the experience of the fitters with D2's. There are countless stories of damage inflicted by the mainstream companies - which they will deny unless you have documentary to prove otherwise. The usual litany is a broken plenum (the large plastic moulding that runs across the bottom of the windscreen) and broken and badly refitted windscreen side finishers.
I had well known from TV windscreen replacement firm break the plenum in 5 places and the side finishers threatened to blow off. Their response: "it wasn't us". They had to refit the screen after it leaked the first time it rained. When you are looking at a bill of $300-400 to replace damaged mouldings saving a couple of hundred on buying the windscreen doesn't look like good value.
TBH I'd pony up and pay someone who knows what they are doing.
cheers

Bad workmanship will be watched carefully , Ill be there to check before any money cross,s hands:angel: , Any broken or miss aligned fittings will be pointed out , I don't see a prob if im there to inspect the job before said fitter gets the $$$ and disappears , If it leaks that's the chance we all take when a screen is fitted these days even tho it shouldn't leak:cool:

I checked out the person that did the Rangie very carefully, and he had plenty of experience fitting screens to that vehicle. During the initial conversation you caould tell he had, as he bought up the problems that can arise, and knew of the 3 different type of screens available for that car. As he runs a soley on site business he has very low overheads compared to the bigger companies. The screen is very good - no manufacturing defects, and he fitted it well. It doesn't leak or whistle, and all for $260- and no hair dryer supplied:D

Take pics of the mouldings and plenum before they start (but while they're there).
Also of the original markings on the screen.
This was the only way I got the stuff replaced. They tried to screw the pillar moulding back on with self tappers FFS. Claimed that the insurance only covered "pattern" parts, which I disproved in the policy.

I seem to recall a post saying that original fitment screens with the correct tint factor eg Opticool, is needed for the temp sensor to work properly.

It surprised me when I was looking for a replacement screen for the D3. Our favourite regular TV advertisers wanted $900, but all but refused to come out to fit it. Another local firm wanted $550, but again had to be done at their premises.
It ended up that I needed an insurance replacement for the D1, so spoke to the tiny Gold Coast firm that the insurance company contracted to do that work, and they came out and fitted an Optikool screen with the inbuilt rain sensor for $450 at the same time they did the D1.
Sometimes biggest is not always best.

I have noticed that for generic parts (in the broadest sense that every car has one) some people seem to double the price as soon as you say 'Land Rover'
That said, I recently got the (hardened) glass replaced for my 2a ute for $500 including new runners in the doors, all fitted - not bad considering the glass had to be made in Adelaide :BigThumb:

They actually do, but they usually say Range Rover when infact you have a Land Rover, I usually pull them up on that and tell them there's $100K price difference:D

No, just a local guy over the West side of town. I did ring that bloke, but he was a bit more expensive and I needed to take the car over that end of town which was a bit far out of my way.

don't think its just LR.
I have a Mitsubishi scorpion 'race' car. local Windscreen O'Brien wanted $580 & I had to go to them. more difficult in an unregistered car.
$270, local bloke he comes to me - had him come before for other things and his work seems good.

Hi all,
Wending ever so slightly off topic.... Last night some drug #$@3 scum individuals decided to help themselves to my wifes handbag, purse and phone via the front passenger widow on the imprezza. Grrrrrrrr bad thoughts grrrrrrrr.:twisted::twisted:
Insurance excess $625, prices for glass and replacement varied from $185 to $880!!!! :oSettled on fitted, today, in work carpark $385.
I went down to the senior citizens centre carpark, and exercised all of my druggie impersonating powers, and eventually found a glasses case purchased in Turkey a few weeks ago for 20 cents, in a bin at the bus interchange. Grrrr again:twisted::twisted::twisted:
So, these @!###$ers got a $20 note, a pair of fake prada sunglasses, a useless Iphone, and a handfull of cards. One of which they tried to use at an ATM to skin a lazy five hunj - denied due to wrong PIN, ha ha :D:D And about $1500 out of pocket expenses........:mad:
And we have an ATM identity, a time, a date, a CCTV nearby, good lighting and the stars were lined up, and the moon was full.
Anyone want to speculate what the chances are of the plods identifying or catching the miscreants????

All done for the silly price of $200.00 by someone I rang on the off chance , No broken moulds nor leaks and done straight away while I waited :D
And the other place well I thought they might have called to explain there stuff up out of courtesy , Yeah right I wont lose any sleep over them or the lack of phone calls ,
I did send them another email saying there lost was my gain at a better price;)
