Just a quick question for anyone on the Gold Coast ..............

I'll be driving in a hire car from Brisbane Airport to Sanctuary Cove tomorrow night. Never been there before.

Do I need to have cash / coins with me for toll road - or any other surprises (we don't have anything like that over here). I'll be travelling by the most direct route - Gateway / Pacific Motorway M1 according to Google Maps. If I try anything else, I'll probably end up "geographically challenged".

Meeting up with a company over there who manufacture / supply wet processing plant to look at a proposed plant for an iron ore beneficiation operation in the Pilbara. There's a plant working at Sunnybank that I'll be looking at on Thursday.

Quick trip this time - flying back here on Friday afternoon and then taking SWMBO to Cirque du Soleil which is on just round the corner from where I stay in Perth while at work. Hope to get back up there soon and maybe spend a little longer and have a bit of a look round next time. I'll probably be driving a Corolla or something - so I don't imagine driving will be a pleasure. :D

Thanks ...................

You can pay after the trip at the https://www.govia.com.au. There are other options there as well.
If you have an etag from Sydney or Melbourne they will work.

Cheers,
Russ

Depending on who you're hiring from, some of the hire companies give you the option to rent a toll tag too.

Thanks for that. Hire car is Avis, so I guess that they would have the tag option. Will ask them at the airport when I get there.

I travel that route every day for work.. :(

Recently I used a hire car and I found the easiest way to deal with the tolls was to go the etoll webpage (https://www.govia.com.au/SelfService/SignupScreens/Viavideopassesnone.action) and give them my credit card details along with the registration of the car and the dates I needed my credit card to cover the toll for that car (dates also included times).. it was easy and effective... and what the hire company told me to do.. :)

Thanks Sue. That sounds like the way to go. I'll only be travelling up & down the highway twice (Wednesday & Friday) so should be easy enough, even for a dummy like me from the bush. :p

Soon as I get the rego details, I'll jump on the website and sort it. Wonder if I'll get a 50% rebate cause I'll only be driving half a car (Corolla or similar).

Geez I'm glad that our gubmint over here haven't caught onto this lurk yet. Bad enough paying their ridiculous parking fees - and they've just announced that they're going to put them up again too. :censored:
