Here are few pictures of my newly redesigned bumper.
Its of course based on stick Disco bumper with LED's inserted, in the cutouts.
Also the (plastic) corners have been replaced with steel design and added some plates on the bottom on the wings as well as heavy duty (long) skid plate.
So, what ya think?
I am actually thinking of painting the bumper either while or dark silver to give it more punch.
Some will probably ask why not just go straight for ARB bumper, but there are not large animals crossing the road where I live, (maybe some fat people), and I did this for 1/8 of the ARB cost.

Looks good, although I love the look of the full bull-bars & live in a kangaroo paradise. Did you think about raising the centre bar to nudge bar heights?
So ball park $ figure?? :D

Nice job, it looks good :BigThumb:
As for the colour, leave it black I reckon. Not a big fan of colour coded bumpers and the black contrasts nicely with the white paintwork (....and I've also got a black bullbar on my white Disco so I'm biased :D)

...and have you had chance to test how it stands up to the fat people??

:Rolling: and if it works, we'll all get one. Nothing worse than front end damage caused by some lard arse at the Maccas drive through!

I'd go the dark silver...looks really good, I like the idea of looking stock but not being so, what are the LEDs for ?

Black, easier to repaint as it doesn't show as many marks LOL

Very nice.
Im a big fan off that, looks really clean. I considered doing a similar thing with my D1 after i cut down the standard front bar but a nice cheap TJM bar came along before that :p
did you put it together yourself?

Thanks all, it did take me a long time to debate between this option or buying into the ARB. What made me go for this was the weight of the ARB, and possible effects on front suspension, also the safety. Looking at the ARB it does not seem that the bumper will give if you hit something very hard. I want my front to crumble and take all the energy of the impact saving me and my kids inside. This is a County version with ABS and Airbags, so I wanted to keep those systems unaffected.
I live in Indonesia, Jakarta now and even fat people are scarce here and certainly no kangaroos. Hopefully I wont see any fat arsses Although I did already hit a wall while turning at a parking lot, gosh they make those things very tight here. The corner is already painted over, so yeah I'll take the point on leaving it black.
The main issue on the streets here are the gazillions of motorcycles, so the LEDs provide that extra punch and visibility in the traffic (day time driving lights).
As for the costs, well the skid plate was in range of $150-200, so little cheaper that off the shelf.
The bumper, the steel corners and the little side plates (bottom) were also $150. The bar for the lights was $40 and I actually like it that way. I am not a fan of a high nudge bar as if you eventually hit something it damages the grill and the bonnet. (I have seen it happen).
The corners were quite a bit of work and done at a very skilled shop outside of Jakarta in Bogor owned by guy called Nchex. He is the local land rover guru here.
The side plates are done from a 3mm steel plate and mounted in the back of the bumper onto the two existing bolt studs there. This could have easily been done at home with sheet metal and few tools.
I'll think about the paint, and will update if anything changes :):p

Nice, but I'd paint it white if it were me !
(I'm a fan of colour coding on Discos but not Defenders. Go figure.)

Here is "face lift" I came up with with too much time on my hands and Photoshop.
I think I like it (also the option with Hella Black Magics).
So the color calles for silver, but dark silver I think. Another option would be to paint the skid plate, but i think that would be too much.
One more thing to note is the repaint of the grill, all the way to the bottom, where originally white strip was. I think this actually makes a big difference.
Thoughts?

Actually that looks pretty good.
If you like it, go for it (but I still prefer black :D)

I like the skid plate. And the blacked out grill, I've skyways thought about going to a D2 grill for similar effect.

Kevin,
Here are pics of the skid plate. We actually made a frame from a one inch pipe , attached the frame to the chasis and then attached the plate in front. That way the plate is very long and it protects the steering rods. You can also take it off by unscrewing the 6 bolts from the front. (The treads are in the pipe frame.)

Here it is painted! Came out a little lighter than I wanted, so may need a second go for darker gray.
