Some sell cast alloy, some sell stainless steel or mild steel.

Which should I go for & why?

You should buy what suits your budget and your sense of aesthetics.

Any of the adapters will do the same basic job. If you want to spend the least amount of money the mild steel will be hard to go past.

The machined and welded aluminium adapters tend to be sold via tuning firms and are very well made bits of kit. I don't think there is much to choose between them. I ended up going for the Allard kit simply because it has a spigot for a boost gauge and I like the historic associations of the brand. It also looks pretty damn good bolted up to the intake manifold ;)

I wish mine had the bung in the intake part. As I now need to go find someone that can weld alloy to put one in.

I brought mine from ebay. Thank the seller was PDT010.
To block the egr all you need is the blank that you can fit inline with the current system. If a D2a, fit it between the pipe from the exhaust manifold and the cooler. As its the easiest to get allan keys onto.
This will stop the EGR system from working and brings up no fault codes. I am just waiting for my intake pipe to be fitted with the bung for the boost sensor. Then I will delete the EGR system completely.

These kind of comments always remind me of the infamous Hannah Glasse recipe which began:

First, catch your hare.

I'm guessing that you have a drill press, hole saws, and a welder out in the workshop?

This is all you need and longer bolts
I made one with a drill, hacksaw and file from 50mm x 3mm plate:)

Ahha! I was having visions of you out in a fully equipped workshop turning up billet tubes on the lathe, milling the base plate and precision TIG welding aircraft grade alloy. I have to say I'm slightly disappointed its just a blanking plate. :)

Personally, I like the replacement piece for the inlet manifold too rather than using the EGT part.

I'd go for the alloy, it's likely to be the lightest and will hold up for the inlet side.

For the exhaust manifold definitely want a steel blanking plate for the heat.

As mentioned above I also went with the Allards unit due to the included threaded fixing for the turbo boost pressure gauge.

I did the drilling at work and welded it up at home. 6mm plate and 2 1/4" exhaust pipe. Easy and only cost me the electricity to weld it up.

The boost gauge spigot on these, what difference does that make (most kits don't have this), does that stop you having to plug the hole in your air filter box?

Nothing to do with the air box. The threaded spigot is used to attach a sender unit for an aftermarket boost gauge.

You can get similar information from the ECU using a Nanocom, but it's useful if you want a dedicated display or are planning on using something like the Innovate Motorsports or PLX Devices logging gauges to help tweak fuel mapping.
