When I bought klonk, my 80'' landy rebuild, I had no place for it at home but managed to get the use of a shed that is part of a small private school where my wife works. There are no close neighbours and its on a blind street with 4 other houses but it has a popular cycle path down to the beach along the road. Anyway 4 weeks ago there were some windows broken in the classrooms on the weekend by unknown people.
2 weeks ago I was down working on klonk when i saw 2 kids (15 or 16 yrs) on bikes open the carpark gate and ride in and headed up to the classrooms, so i hopped in the ute and went to chase them off. I caught up with them and asked them to leave. I was met with abuse and lots of words I cant put on here.
To cut a long story short there was lots of spitting, rock throwing, (some at my ute) and more abuse. The kids moved back to the road. I then rembered my phone in my pocket and decided to use it to take photos of them just incase. I didnt have to wait long. The kids disappeared up the road over a small hill. 5 or 10 minutes later I noticed a cloud of smoke over the hill, on inspection there was fire started on the roadside heading into the bush next to the school.
The fire brigade and police were called and the photos and details were given. Today I had to go down to the police station and sign the statement. I asked if they had id them, yes was the reply theyve started their 8 week detention.
They were involved in other fires as well but the police had no evidence, it was my photos that finally gave them enough to charge them.
So rember to keep your cameras handy if theres trouble about, the police love photos.

Cheers Steve

It's good but sad imo. Great you have hopefully made a difference, or created wake up call for some feral kids. Using a phone to capture that has done good in this case. Seems the parents have failed a bit there, and society has done it's bit.
But the other side of the sword is
I see cameras everywhere used in a society that is scared of each other. Always want to protect themselves from others. Always want to litigate. All driven by fear, lawyers, and politicians who have let it run wild.

i know this should go to jokes but it is apt following jason's thread.
A barrister arrives in heaven and knocks on the pearly gates."aha, Mr Donohue, we've been expecting you....welcome to heaven" says St Peter. "But this isnt fair", says the barrister, "I'm only 45 and far too young to die". "H'mmm, thats odd," says St Peter, rubbing his chin. "According to hours you've billed, we've got you at one hundred and twenty years old."

Yes Jason I agree, I was quite happy not to involve the police untill they lit the fire. I do hold hope for one of the kids, hope he chooses his friends better in the future. Parents need to be involved with there kids, its a life time thing really.
The photo method of crime control is unfortuate but it seems to be the only method that is left that doesnt land the victim in trouble as well.

I am involved with the PCYC (police citizens youth club) as an instructor for the 10mtr airrifle club, so I deal with troubled kids abit. It may seem funny teaching ratbag kids to handle firearms but we run a tight ship behaviour wise and it teaches discipline and responsability. The kids can see a result, ie holes in the target and so can track their improvement, which gives them a sence of acheivement. Later on we take them away on competition shoots for the weekend to Perth and Kalgororlie etc,for many this is the first time away. The last trip away the juniors and seniors got first prize each. On the way up on the bus there were two groups of kids, juniors in the front and seniors in the back, on the way home there was just one group up the back. Team building YAY.

klonk, I really don't know why good new doesn't sell. I much preferred reading the last positive real life stuff instead of the bad.
I occasionally try and piece a world together if most songs were about love falling together instead apart. A media that focused on positive reports instead of sensationalised negative. Parents that had more responsibility and interest in their kids, rather than TV and Internet being the main source of information and attention.
To me society runs to much on the negative side, then takes whatever is the easiest option to ease the negative threat. Cameras and litigation for instance. Fences so they don't have to talk to the neighbours. That type thing.
If the ratbag kids had parent who were interested in them; and people in society had a bit more belief just like you have done, perhaps it would be a better place for all. Well done mate,
