Hi Guys,

Did a stupid thing on Saturday and connected a battery charger without removing the leads. Just a quick top up to get it started so I could go and buy a new battery. Anyway when I tried to start the disco (97 Series 1) up, the alarm came on and the key in the ignition won't stop it. I haven't used the hand set in years and only operate the car by using the key.
So the question is, how bad have I done and can anyone suggest how to get the car back up & running?

Thanks
Brett

most likey the battery went completely dead and the alarm has been upset.

do the reset thing and see how it goes with the new battery.

Hi Guys,

Hi Brett - why do you think that is a stupid thing to do - In 40 years of driving I have never removed the leads even in my RRS and not had any issues. For sure - turn off the charger before disconnecting the charger clips to prevent sparking (battery explosions) and voltage spikes but I have never removed battery cables to charge the battery.

I do not think your issues are directly related to the charging and as mentioned I think the battery has just died upsetting systems.

Thanks guys,
I have always disconnected a battery before charging so you can see why I thought that may have been the problem. I will go and get a battery tomorrow and see what happens. If that doesn't work I will be back to ask for more ideas
