Hi All
I'm new to the site but have noticed quite a lot of chat about tyres, both brands and sizes, so thought I would add to the discussions.
I am about to change the tyres on my Disco 2 from Cooper ATR in 235/70/16 to Bridgestone D697 in 245/70/16. The Coopers have been quite good, never had a puncture (only light off road use – gravel and sand mostly) and the wear has been great, but I am changing mainly on price. Will be doing a trip west in June and keen to see how they go.
I know I am safe with the size change but decided to contact Dept. Of Transport (Qld) anyway to see what the parameters are and was told the following;
• Measurements must be compared to manufacturers specs
• Can be up to 50mm wider
• Can be up to 1.3 times the diameter
• Load rating must be no less that specs
• The tyre must not protrude beyond the guard
I also contacted the insurers and was told they are only concerned about the wheel size not the tyres, provided they are legal.
If anyone is using the Bridgestone D697s would like to hear your thoughts on them.
Cheers
