G'day,

While I sit here trying to justify the cost of a locker for my Salisbury and how I will explain it to my girlfriend ;) I have a few questions...

I see on your website it says, "We do not take international orders from this website." True? or old text? How do we order. :)

Do you only accept Paypal? Are other payment methods the same cost? (Different transaction fees for us at all?)

Thanks. :)

yep, but theres nothing stopping me from having axles made to suit the application, my main concern is the difference in the wheel thickness and off set for the centers drive flange., Im staying at 4.7:1 for the ratio. (and sort of considering a set of 5.3's)

MaxiDrive and most other locker manufacturers only make a 3.54 version and supply spacer rings for 4.7s.

Thats pretty much what I'd settle for BUT if I can get it without the need for the spacer then thats the preferred setup. If I cant get the preferred setup do they provide the spacer and at what extra cost is the next question.

Funny you bring that up. We had a put that on the website after an Australian gentleman threaten legal action if we did not honor the prices on our website delivered to Australia at no additional cost.

That said we have been doing wonderful business with this forum and its members for years. We will gladly provide you the part you desire if you choose to order it from us.

Dana 60s are 99% the same as salisburies. So any D60 LSD can fit, the only issue is the axle splines. Keith Kreuzer from rovingtracks has the part lists needed to fit a D60 locker to a sals housing or vice versa.

On a similar note I don't suppose you sell 30 or 35 spline D60 detroits?

There's been a few posts over the years on this.
I've been running standard axles in the back of my County for a couple of years with a Detroit. Its done some pretty heavy work and nothing has broken so far.
Maybe I drive it like a granny - but that's been my experience.

In saying that, I pulled a rear hub off the other night for some brake work, and found that the spline on the inner end of the short axle is slightly twisted. Only just noticeable but definitely deformed, so I've got a decision to make now regarding replacement.

FWIW - there is also a school of thought that says if you break an axle with a Detroit fitted then you will destroy the locker. I have yet to see evidence of it happening in a Landrover salisbury.

Cheers,

Depending on how the Detroit goes I'll be looking to get a truetrac for the front but as it currently has a 10 spline center I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this.

Any ideas if I can bolt the 24 spline true track to the ex-10 spline center then get hold of 23/24 spline axles(I believe it would have AEU 2522 CVs as it's an early 110)

Yes a 24 spl centre will bolt straight in. You just need to buy some 24/23 spline axle shafts from HTE, Ashcroft or Rovingtracks.

I have had a Detroit locker in the rear of my S3 for 15 years, and now have had it in the Defender for nearly 10 years , still works perfectly.
I am thinking of an Ashcroft ABT for the front .
Has anyone had any long term experience with the Ashcroft centres ?

I have had one in the rear of the D2 for about a year, and am about to order one for the front.

Apart from never really stopping anymore (I'm questioning the need in the front a bit) you'd never know it's there. No noise, clunks or thumps just seamless operation. If I understand their operation correctly they actually operate as an unlocker, being constantly engaged, differentiating only when they need for different wheel speeds is required. Operation with Traction Control is fabulous. The braking assists in the torque redistribution when the wheel slips and you only feel the slightest hesitation while traction is moved around.

And Justin's service and advice is excellent.

Sale Update

I am sorry but we have some bad news. We can not ship the Ash Locker for free. It is too heavy for us to take advantage of your special shipping rate by 2 lbs. That 2 lbs makes the shipping almost triple in price. If you still want the Ash locker it will now be $70 for shipping

For anyone that has already ordered an Ash locker we will still honor the original price.

Pull axles, front tailshaft. Remove diff, remove carrier bearing caps. Remove crownwheel from original centre, fit to new centre. Replace in reverse.

Simplified but essentially it's just that. Should take less than a day.

While I can do everything myself, I've found a specialist that, including new seals and bearings and lapping will replace a centre in your housing (removed from car already) for less than $300-. I no longer bother stressing myself.

Ashcroft must of changed something in the casing. It is slightly heavier now and we can no longer ship them. If we pull the bearings off it will only save slightly over a pound. We need close to 3 pounds in weight savings. In theory we could tear the unit down but at that point I don't think it's worth it for the end user.

Skiboy, ATB's and true tracks can be used in either the front or the rear without issue.

There are a few members on the forum that run locked rear and ATB/Truetrack front, and some that run ATB's/Truetracks both F&R.

I wonder how effective - no doubt Ashcroft would not make if they were not effective

Would seem to be a less stressed option for front in particular

I don't mind using. Little brake to activate if cross axled as per web site to simulate traction control

Do they affect turning circle - must be less so than a locker?

My only locker experience is our rangie ute with maxi lockers so wondering if as effective in that would get all the same places?

I have looked at the Ashcroft and your sites plus elsewhere but can't find any details re rear only or front and rear hence the stupid qu.

Skiboy
Not a stupid question at all. The ABT works just as well in the front as the rear.

Skiboy, ATB's and true tracks can be used in either the front or the rear without issue.

There are a few members on the forum that run locked rear and ATB/Truetrack front, and some that run ATB's/Truetracks both F&R.

Thank you.

Ski boy

I have been running one in the rear for a little bit. So far the traction advantage is noticeable especially when combined with traction control.

I do not notice it when turning.

No limited slip can provide the same traction as a true locker.

In an application with traction control they are great, don't have to think about playing with the brake to get it engaging.

X2.

Please forgive me but we don't have anything newer than a 1997 Defender in the US.
Did Land Rover abandon Saulsberry axle?

Yup:mad: 2003 they put the p38 rear in the defenders, which is weaker and have been having issues ever since which have been increased by the 2007 on puma engine , along with prop issues. If you have a look further it could be an easy market to sell DC props from Tom woods to suit 2 in lifted pumas (07-now)and td5(99-02 Salisbury,03-06 P38).

Hi FiveSPDDisco. Do you have any/can you get a Trutrac to suit the Salisbury Front Axle on my Land Rover 101 with the larger shafts? If not what other options have I got? Thanks. Simon.

What would be the best for almost full-time towing caravan (round Oz) with a little bit of play, front or rear? Oh it's a D1 96 V8 auto & do front auto/full-time lockers make the steering to hard? especially when towing, thanks :D

I would suggest the Ashcroft ABT front and rear.
I do not think you will feel much difference when driving around town.

Finally got around to fitting the ATB from you guys, all going great, new bearing fitted, went to put the cups on to refit to set up backlash only to find the bearing cups don't match the bearings..I thought it unusual when I got the package to find bearings and cups floating around loose in the box, with a lot of stuffing around I was able to remove my original bearing which aren't all that old, and then remove the just fitted new bearings refitted my bearing and set itall up ok but not overly impressed. Im sorry the bearings some how got miss matched. We buy them as sets so this is very odd.

To prevent this in the future, we will no longer be providing Free bearings with any orders.

Far be it for me to criticise and I'm not, but simply not providing them free won't solve the issue of them being supplied to you mismatched. Parts should have picked it up on receiving and checking the invoice/delivery docket or at a minimum on picking and inspecting for dispatch.

I agree and we would have sent new ones or refunded the cost of him to get locally. The bearing have become an issue on our end so we will no longer be providing them at this special price.

Thank you.

We are a tiny Rover shop of enthusiasts not a big box store. We try hard but sometimes we make mistakes. The locker deal came about because we found a cheap way to send you guys lockers Via the USPS.
