View Full Version : Un-plugged wire Td5

Evening folks.
Popped the bonnet to get the jack out yesterday and I noticed a wire that wasn't plugged in in the engine bay.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/05/892.jpg (http://s1166.photobucket.com/user/DiscoMuppet/media/plug_zps754c498a.jpg.html)
Not sure what it's for, I certainly haven't disconnected anything, couldn't see a vacant plug.
It's a bit dirty, might clean it up for a better photo. Plug is light green.
It's down under the coolant overflow tank, as seen by the pink stains in the background from a spill during a top up.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Throttle EGR plug (C0272) would be my guess. My recollection is the wiring comes from under the fuse box, so that pic doesn't look 100% right for that. Anyway check and see if you have anything plugged into the bottom of the EGR modulator. It looks like you have the rest of the EGR stuff still there so perhaps someone has done a super budget EGR disable?

That's okay, I've got a spare flux capacitor in the shed.
And mine came with the optional extra of sharks with fricken lazer beams in the back.

It's the recharge point for oil filled jacks
or perhaps it's the powerpoint for an egotistical, megalomaniac, psychopathic computer, that wants to dominate the entire human species.
I hear they were an optional extra on 2001 TD5s.

You know your council has failed when the dirt roads are smoother than the bitumen ones :p

I'd hook it back up. The stock fuel mapping is designed to work with a functioning EGR.

Hmmmm.....
I wonder......
I don't recall seeing it unplugged before, as I spent a fair bit of time sticking my head around the coolant tank....
Maybe it was left unplugged when the fan bearing was replaced....
It's certainly been driving differently....

Noob question time.
What am I looking to plug it into?
Cannot find any sign of an plug for it to go.
Pics would be greatly appreciated, or at least a general are reference :)

Can't help you with pics as my egr modulator got binned along with the rest of the gear.
Have a look in the electrical library pdf in RAVE and check the connector number in the connector views section.
The EGR modulator should be on the inner guard between fire wall and shock turret.

Can you see what the wire/trace colours are?
You could try is moving the plug around and see what it will reach. ;)

I'll have a squiz. It would be stretching to reach the battery box. I'll check the wire colour.

I reckon its just a spare harness input for something that isnt specced on your vehicle.Mine has several unused plugs like that,I reckon one in a simalar location too.

There is definitely something plugged in there.
Should it be one half of a Y split?
OffTrack
10th May 2013, 07:01 PM
There is also a black plug C0270 (Modulator-EGR) in pic above that shares the Brown/Pink wire, so could well be a y-split.
So there should be two plugs connected to the EGR modulators on the guard. The throttle and egr modulators have a colour coded socket which should match the harness plugs so make sure they are plugged green - green and black - black.

IIRC that is for EU3 only Paul? Muppets 2001 should still be EU2 unless it is a late VIN...

It's an April build IIRC.
I'll have a squiz tomorrow but I'm quite sure I saw the modulator and there were two plugs connected.
Wouldn't the EGR being disconnected make it more clattery off idle? Haven't noticed any increase in noise, although after the fan went walkies and was fixed up it seemed to hold hills better.
Then again, I'm still trying to work out if I have a chip or not.

I'm just going off the pics Muppet has posted.
The unplugged connector matches both connector colour and wiring colour for the inlet throttle modulator.

I just checked my 06/2001 build and I also have that loose green plug! My EGR system was fully intact so must be an LR revision or anticipation or EU3 emission maybe?

Just had a peek in Microcat. There were two different harnesses introduced during the 2001MY production. There are two VIN's listed the first which is YSB000830 (-CND/MEX/US and +J) was introduced 27 June 2001. The second which is YSB000840 (+CND/MEX/US and -J) was introduced on 06 December 2000.
If AU delivery vehicles had the YSB000840 harness fitted this would explain why DM's D2 has the EU3 EGR plug.

Paul, sorry what I meant to say was that The harness is probably there, but no valve to connect it to unless market dictates. Muppets would be close to EU2 end of line.

Agreed.
Not a huge U2 fan but when I do like their stuff, I like it alot.
I found the use of the song "Bad" for the film "Brothers" to be absolutely spot on, perfectly suited the mood of the movie.
