One thing the Landy has over the Titanic though, it wont sink trying to cross the Atlantic.

To be fair, the Titanic only leaked after it had been rammed into an iceberg. For a Land Rover it's a design feature. Self cleaning interior.

Was'nt the Titanic Irish?

Built by the Irish for an English company owned by Americans. What could have possibly gone wrong there? :p

The chap who designed it was not English, he was Irish.
Thomas Andrews.

I reckon it will sink.
But the real issue is what depth the raised air intake fill up with water

from the wiki
RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner
like all things of british standard
near enough.
(It also cant be american. There are reports that the onboard coffee was good and the food was excelent)

And unlike they say theres 75% of all the land rovers made still on the road, of all the ships he designed, only one survives..https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/05/862.jpg (http://s856.photobucket.com/user/juddyburton/media/Screenshot2013-05-10at121026PM_zps8f0d500e.png.html)

Who ever heard of good English food? Since the White Star Line was owned by the Yanks, no wonder they were in a big hurry to get to New York. One big headlight could have saved their necks.

Davo, are you even thinking....
ITs british, the head light would have been lucas, therefore it wouldnt have worked.

Clive Palmer is going to build another Titanic.....
In February 2013, at a press conference in New York, Palmer announced plans to build a modern-day replica of the cruise liner RMS Titanic. It is planned that Titanic II will be built in China and will make its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in 2016. Palmer hopes to re-create the Titanic as closely as possible with its familiar outside looks and also on the inside. The Titanic II will be 883 feet long and weigh 55,800 gross tons, according to Palmer. Built in China, it will carry 2,435 passengers and 900 crew. The Titanic II will honor the memories of those who died and survived on the Titanic, Palmer said. The Titanic was operated by the White Star Line, and Palmer’s cruise company is called Blue Star Line. Like the original ship, there will be no TVs aboard and probably no Internet service, he says.
perhaps he can be persuaded to commence a production line for 80" LRs :) (shouldn't cost much more than his Titanic)

:D Oh, come on, the lights on the Titanic kept going while half the ship was under water. Obviously Lucas quality was better in the old days or they got the Germans to make everything and didn't tell anyone. I mean, they couldn't build an unsinkable ship but they had lights that worked - it just doesn't add up.

I've often thought someone should build a replica. As long it's affordable, lots of people would love to say that they sailed on the Titanic . . . and survived.

Only problem the replica will not be steam powered. Those 2 46000hp triple expansion engines were breathtaking. You can only imagine what it would have been like in the engine room with these things pushing the ship through the water at 21 knots. I doubt that even with our modern technology that we could even produce such engines again. Nor convince an army of crew to fire the 20 odd boilers.

One was meant to last, the other was a transient stop-gap measure.
Oh the irony! or should I say the aluminiumy.
The latter had a brima-bright future.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
1/ Build a ship from metal plate with sulphur inclusions in the metal structure as it is prone to cracking at low temps.
2/ Build a ship with a very small rudder which does not work in the propellor wash when manovering.
3/ Build a ship with less that half of the number seats/ life boats needed.
4/ Build a ship with water tight bulk head rising only a few meters above normal working sea level .
5/ build a ship without reversing thrust on the middle prop.
6/ build a ship a sail it without bonoculars for the lookouts.
1/Sail a ship at 21 knots in known and reported ice berg conditons at night.
2/Radio a near by anchored ship( anchored because of dangerous ice conditions for the night )to get off the air waves so the Titantic could transmit non important messanges to landbases......so the other ship shut down its radio and stopped listening.
3/ carry white flares instead of the emergency red ones.
( the white flares were seen by the nearby ship, but not responded to as they were not red.)
4/Start the ship underway again after the ship hit the ice berg, increasing flooding in the front compartments.
5/the ship was reversed and the helm held hard over just before it hit the berg..........this greatly reduced the steering effect of the rudder.
( if the speed just reduced and the righthand side engine just kept at 1/3 speed and the left hand (port engine) stopped the rudder would have been more effective and the ship would have turned out of trouble.)
6/ the first few life boats were not filled to capacity.
Can anyone think of more stuff ups.

For a lr to sink, it must at some stage float.......
We all know that is impossible, the "self cleaning floors" let so much water in that all 4 wheels will stay firmly on the sand....drive off the beach and it will simply keep going along the bottom without first floating.....therefore, unlike the titanic, a landrover is truly unsinkable;)

You could start your experiment here http://www.titanicbelfast.com/Home.aspx (http://www.titanicbelfast.com/Home.aspx)
Well worth a visit and an easy walk from the city centre. If driving there is plenty of on site underground parking at the museum itself. It is popular so is best to book your timed ticket a week or so ahead.
Unfortunately the redevelopment of the area was designed pre property market colapse and so was driven by the developers want to maximise new buildings on the site. All old buildings except the one beside the museum had already been demolished before work started on the museum. The dry dock beside the museum is to be filled in and its gantrys which tower over the local skyline as you go in to Belfast will go. Also the vacant land that connects the museum to the water is to have high rise put on it which are taller than the museum building itself.
Have not been to them however these Titanic museums in the USA look interesting. Not much use for this experiment though as they are not near the ocean.

It wouldn't be a warranty issue, operator failure. ;)
If it had been a Toyota, the existence of the hole would be strenuously denied.

Lloyd's paid out about a million pounds in insurance, I think. Apparently without two decades of litigation first! Aah, simpler times . . .
