Hi folks,
luring around here reading up on the D4. I really like them, havent driven one as yet but am considering moving from my series 2 VE Calais V V8 to a second hand D4.

With this one of my major worries is that im going to be up for 1k each time it will need a service. Can you kind folks give me an idea of what your paying for servicing say at 50k, 70k and 100K....Either the 2.7 or the 3.0 diesel.

Also anything to look for in a 2 yr old Disco?

Also wondering if anyone knows if you can qualify for the corporate service plan on a used Disco?

Thanks in advance
Martyboy

The Corporate service plan is for new vehicles only. Even demo cars are excluded.

Cheers,

I have had my D4 3.0SE for 3 years and a bit now, and I do around 12,000km/year mainly city driving, and my experience is as follows:

$350 for first service (first year, independent LR specialist)
$1500 for 2nd service (2nd year, at dealer), but this was actually $2000 as it was the 2yr or 48,000km service :eek:
$350 for 3rd service (3rd year, independent LR specialist)

Throw in there another $1000-$1500 or so for brake disks and pads.

I am budgeting $2000 for this coming year as it will be a big one again. :(Independent specialist has standard price of $1200 and dealer has standard price of $1900. Also allowing for some wear and tear items etc

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for your info.

I'd love to go new but the difference in the 60k for second hand and +90 for new will be a squeeze.

Hi Eddomark, who is the independant you use in Sydney?

I just paid 73k for my13....on road 7 seat leather. Difference between second hand 2.7 and a new 3.0 8 speed well worth it in my opinion

Hi Eddomak, who is the independant you use in Sydney?

Graham Cooper in St Peters (near Newtown).
They have a very good reputation.

If you want some comparative prices, I posted this a while ago in another thread, but note that after I challenged the dealer on the oil price they realised they had put the wrong code in and refunded $120 of the oil price (another long story involving complaint escalation to LR Australia).

OK, so I'm a sucker for pain and decided to do a quick comparison of my invoice with an independent from 1 year ago to the current invoice at a dealer so I can be prepared next time.

Engine Oil - $84.14 (EPLUS0W40)-> $251.94 Castrol 5W/20 Synthetic
Oil Filter (same part #) - $24.07 -> $35.40
Drain Plug (same part #) - $8.46 -> $11.43
Washer Additive - $1.27 -> $8.94 (admittedly I have no idea which brand, but I fill my own one up normally with around $2.00 worth of stuff?)
Workshop Supplies/Consumables - $7.00 -> $24.00
Waste Disposal / Environmental Waste Levy - $1.00 -> $22.00?

I think I'm going to have a quick chat with them about the engine oil price...:mad:

Hi guys,

My last service at Ritters was about $815 for the 74k service with front pads on my D4 2.7 - fearing the 86k service will be a bit higher. This said, the Ritters guys do tend to do a good job.

There's my two cents!

Cheers,

By first service you mean 26000kms? Or the optional mid first service?

Just had my first service (12 months old D4 3 litre, done 10,000 km) at local dealer $1038. It was recommended to me to have wheels rotated, balanced and alingment done. Not sure this was really necessay or just a gimick to get me to spend more money - but I will not do it again.

Now waiting to hear from the manager to get him to justify this amount.

Oil -6L
Oil filter
Pollen filter
Draining of fuel filter ( drain the water )

Tyres should have been rotated during the service

What else did it say on your invoice?

1000 bucks for a 26,000km A service seems pretty big.

13MY's do not have the Health Check anymore!

If you do require it, then it is your choice.
It is not pushed anymore as they are sold with "Yearly" servicing from 13MY vehicles.

Cheers

Service costs for my D3 and D4 for the first 3 years... zero. One big benefit of LR corporate programme. :cool: :D

I was invited to submit my MY12 in for a "health check" at six months. I had no objection to this as I was concerned about oil usage and smoke and intended to take it in anyway. They did find a problem which they sorted so all was well on that front, but I was very interested to note the invoice for $278 or something like that, which was discounted to zero with the note "Corporate Plan". In other words that service check was the first of my three free services. Hmmm, okay...

So D3 needs servicing every 6 months or 15,000km and MY13+ only need an annual service? Has anything material changed between oil specs or otherwise that explains this change?

D3 has the 2.7 & servicing is 6 months or 12,000Km's.
D4 only has the 3.0 for 13MY's & uses different oil.
The 3.0 has always only had an oil change yearly anyway as the Health Check does not include one.
The difference being that Salespeople are now pushing "Yearly" servicing.

Cheers.

I was invited to have a complimentary one month check on my D4 recently, even though at sale I was told it didn't need it. Not sure what they did in that 2 hours, but got it washed anyway.

Just wondering if the people pushing "yearly" servicing on the D4, are the same people who said the auto on the D3 was 'sealed for life"....and didn't need servicing.
Surely it is always best to service a vehicle based on the hours/kilometers it has done?

A bit much maybe?

Wheel alignment,rotate,balance,$214?They probably subby this out.

Anyway,had the 12months service done on the D4,no wheel alignment,no pollen filter change but everything else,$425 all up.Done at MR auto.

Had the engine oil and filter changed at 6 months,done at dealer as it was there for a warranty issue,$350 ish.

Sorry D4s but local Perth LR dealer offering a special on D3 servicing $299 (for basic service)

Southern Service Specials (http://www.southernlandrover.com.au/contents/current-offers/service-specials.htm?id=19)

I wonder what we owe this sudden competitiveness too? My Toyota owning friends always say they pay about this price so maybe that's the feedback from the sales team out front?
