Hi folks
Just bought a County in Adelaide and wondering if anyone has any ideas or experience with shipping costs to the West?
I've had a quote from one company of $1019. TRS - the seller - think that's a bit high and are going to do some enquiring for me.
In the meantime, does anyone have any tips, advice or leads on this and an idea of costs...?
TIA
Cheers

I've just this week been quoted $450 for a Fairlane, Townsville-Brisbane. That was a retail price, I'm having it done for trade through contacts, $300 depot to depot. $1000 seems pretty reasonable but try Melcrest, they quote over the internet. Very few companies will allow personal effects or spare parts etc. in the vehicle. Bullbars, roofracks, suspension lifts, rear wheel carriers and oversize tyres create issues too. Dollars make issues disappear.

If it is one of the established car transport firms that's not too unreasonable (eg Ceva, Prixcar, Patricks etc) I was getting quotes last year of $1400-1800 from bris/melb to Perth for a disco 2 depot to depot. Smaller operators may be cheaper.

I paid about $700 for a rangie from gold coast to country Vic about 5 years ago, so your quote seems realistic.
Make sure you go over the vehicle thoroughly for damage when you receive it; the carrier will go over it with a fine-tooth comb when they receive it and will make a note of any scratches, dents or chips. They are liable to repair any damage that is not noted when they receive the vehicle. The problem I had with this was that there was damage done in transit (looked like some clown had climbed on the vehicle in workboots with gravel on the soles) and the documentation that the driver wanted me to sign had no place to list this, only a box for a signature indicating that I had received the vehicle undamaged. When I refused to sign this, he wanted to put the car back on his truck and take it away. Got a bit awkward when I made it clear that was not going to happen. It was late at night and the poor guy had been on the road for about 14 hours, but they used that to try to pressure me to just sign and trust them to sort it out later. In the end he spoke to his boss, left the car and they paid for repairs that I had to organise.
The next time I bought a car from interstate I fetched it myself.

I got my Series one sent over from Adelaide. I was getting quotes closer to $2,000 as it wasn't running or licensed. So your price seems ok in comparison.
I ended up rewiring a Cadillac in exchange for transport, gotta love the barter system!

That's a reasonable price.

Yes I too think the price you have been given is reasonable, especially if they are goint to arrange it / save you the trouble. I really doubt you'll get it here for appraciably less and if you do will probably have had to spend some time trying to do so.
I got $1500 from Sydney last year, but as that route came via Adelaide anyway your price looks good.

sounds pretty good considering the height of them as well, they usually charge more for the higher cars, and its fairly long if its the green one with bullbar :)

We paid around $1000.00 to bring the 130, depot to depot, from Melb to Bris in 2007, with 'Moving Cars'. Patricks truck bought it up.
I think your price is very reasonable.

Mmmmmm..... I'm not seeing transport here... I'm seeing road trip and flight back.... We're north of Adelaide but not far. Has it got SA rego and is it fit for the road? Anyone game? :D

I've already offered at no charge. He reckons the fuel cost would be more.

I'm guessing the fuel cost would be more than a transporter, if I was more sure of the fuel cost (I last had a V8 D1 back in 2003!), I'd have my bum in the driver's seat :D
Ooh maybe after an oil and brake fluid change - no idea how long it's been idle ;)

Yes it is...has LPG, but driving in outback WA makes me uncertain of the amount of places with LPG available...:p

Still an option then.... ;) It's approx 2705km from Adelaide to Perth. Not sure what lt/100km a V8 does but I'm guessin not much... But at 20 lt per 100 on petrol.... Oh crap. Didn't like the answer I got. My maths is far from gud but that's a lot of naughts! :(

Yup, I'm thinking that works out to about the same as the transporter - less an air ticket, food, water etc... :(
If there were a few more dollars floating around I wouldn't care, but there's not so...;)
