Hi all.
I have just made the move from Katherine to Karratha bringing my '98 P38 with me and was wondering if any of you fellow P38 guys live here. I/we arrived on Friday (10/5) and have noticed an abundance of Land Rovers here from series to classics to discos.
I wonder if there is a pretty big following here in Karratha or at least a few fans that get together and head out to the sands from time to time? Does anyone live in this area and know of any meets or groups or fancy meeting up?
My other question is, does anyone know of a reputable mechanic who doesn't mind working on LR's to recommend please. I don't have a problem yet but would like to be prepared.
Thanks.

There are a few people here on the forum no meets that I am aware of.
The mechanic one is difficult most vehicles end up on a truck to Perth personally I usually drive to Geraldton or do it myself.
The one business in town that seems to have a universally good reputation is Barth Brothers in the LIA the rest I have learned to keep away from.

I normally try and do most things myself. It is pretty much part and parcel of LR ownership and it doesn't take too long to work things out using the net. Sometimes there might be things that cannot be done on the drive, or at least are easier on a pit and sometimes time is a factor as well. I have to have mine serviced (oil and filter) every three months or 5000k to keep up the 3yr warranty that came with the car when I bought it. Thanks for the tip!
Now all I have to do is find my way around and work out how to get to the nice beaches that I can take the family and dog too.

The good beaches need a boat
If you go over to the Burrup up the jump up you can work your way over to a nice beach.
Alternately 40 Mile beach to the South or Cleaverville to the North would be a good start.
Some people find the jump up a challenge but it generally isn't for a Land Rover.

I met a bloke in the repco car park with a green classic yesterday and he told me about the jump up and showed me some pics. He got his standard classic up there but there were tales of step damage from him and that the other cars had bent rock sliders there. Probably not exactly where I'd take mine. I did have a conversation with my wife using the words 'off' 'road' 'project' and 'vehicle' and she didn't say no.:D

I have a good Stage 1 that I dont know what to do with I spent about 25K on it but I am pretty sure I wouldnt get anymore that $5K for it up here.
Great old truck most things reco Maxi Drive axles detroit locker, Military 6x6 front diff centre.
Tough as nails but might not impress the wife if she is used to a P38

I had a quick look on youtube at vids for the jump Up. I would definitely give it a go in a P38, set the eas to high, low 2 and you should chug up there no dramas. I would take a look at that step 1st and maybe re arrange a rock or two if its been dug out

You wouldn't need to move rocks, a standard P38 has more ground clearance in standard height that that 4runner!

Yeah, what Wayne said. I know that video can be deceptive, but that looks like a walk in the park for a P38. Maybe the front skirt will take a bit of a whack on that step though... good excuse to lose it :)

I'm sure that she'd enjoy it, especially being six months pregnant.

I think that I might wait until I hook up with someone else to see what damage they do first. Lol. I doesn't seem to bad though and I have been in worse spots although not with a P38 on 20's.

Your p38 will just walk through the rocks. A great opportunity to show the Nissotas how it's done ;)

I laughed at that mate. Can't be any worse than a friends husband asking her to mow the lawn when heavily expectant.
