Don't usually share my "personal" life too much, but I'm too proud not to in this case!!
On monday at 17:57 my partner gave birth to our beautiful girl summer jade. 8pound 6oz and 52cm long.
Never been so happy in my life!!

Congrats!
"A little ray of sunshine."
and like all fathers with their daughters....you are already wrapped around that tiny tiny finger :)
Axiom - A Little Ray Of Sunshine (1970) - YouTube
I pass on a few bits I found invaluable and are still greatful for;
-put bubs in a cot near a radio that is on, not overly loud but not too quiet either... they learn to sleep through noises etc that way.. a bonus for the future
-mum should sleep whenever bubs does if she can...
-get some "infants friend" its a natural liquid from the chemist... couple drops when bubs is unsettled and wont settle... a burp or fart and sleep sweet sleep as they are comfortable (its pure gold)
-In SA our womens and childrens hospital has teething gel, a special one made by them and sold by them only, maybe an equivilent hospital your way has something similar?... when she starts to teeth you rub it on their gums and it numbs them making it much less painful and therefore again they can settle
take lots of photos and keep them all safe, they are irreplaceable (kids and photos!!)
a friend has made a yearbook each year and gives it to her kids each christmas, its a great record of their year, lots of photos, and records friends, holidays pets etc etc and her kids love them....they are the first present they go for at christmas which says something!
lastly...
Enjoy!
Congrats again!

Ha! That's a bit freaky considering we have been chatting.
Thanks everyone. I have 5 nieces and nephews and held them a lot. But unlike them, I just dont want to put her down! Cant believe we brought her into this world, absolute perfection.

Are you sure you didn't mean she was 3.8kg or 20.5"? :D
Sorry, but I couldn't help noticing the mixture of imperial and metric measurements. :) I'm convinced that one of the last things to change to metric will be babies' birth weights.
Congratulations.
There's nothing like your first baby - ever.
Enjoy!!

There is something that comes very close; the birth of your first grandchild. :)

Ha it is weird that they do that. They wrote down both, but think its more of a tradition thing.
Tell you what though, they were right, brought a tear to my eye watching that pub burn down!! Hahahaha

Congratulations Austravel, enjoy her now as they grow so quick, just hopes for a good sleeper, and I don't envy you at teething time, many a night I have walked around the local shopping centre building at 1-3am trying to get a teething baby to sleep, but that was 40+years ago but it is still vivid.
cheers

Congratulations, kids are the best thing that could happen in a couple's life.
As previously said take a lot of pictures of every possible occasion and don't forget short video footage. They will stay as reminders when the your memory will be faded by the passage of time. Keep them secured by making two copies stored in different places.
Enjoy every moment.

well there you go, no more first class for Austravel
savour the moment, the fist is like no other. In years to come your moment now will still be as fresh as yesterday. Love Summer Jade's name, different and easy to spell.
well done, hope mum is travelling great.

That's good to hear. All kid stuff is like that where there is a myriad of rules but then what actually is possible may be far different. I had to put a CRAB bar anchor point in the Rangie by figuring out and organising the whole thing and then getting the ONE authorised joint in the Kimberley to do it. (And an apprentice did the work anyway, which I redid later on.)
Anyway, as pointed out, take lots of pictures because a strange thing happens where at any given point your child seems to not change very much, but then you look at a month-old photo and you can't believe the difference.
And in no time you'll be giving out free advice to new parents too!

Not a father and will not be for sometime(hopefully).
I have been watching my niece grow up who is now 9 months. The only advice I could give is you still need to make time for each other
