Hello all,
My car is a 2003 Defender 90 Xtreme TD5.
It has 40000kms on the clock and I just changed the oil in the two diffs, Gearbox and Transfer case. The only item left I would like to change is the centre diff oil.
The motor oil was only done 2000kms ago.
Does anyone know it this model diff is oil or grease? If so any guides on changing it if its oil or when to renew the grease if it's grease.
I don't have a Rave CD sorry
Cheers

The centre diff is part of the transfer box, so you have changed the oil.

Yes as above it is part of the transfer case. I would use a synthetic 75/90 oil like this Penrite Oil - A Better Class Of Oil (http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=4&id_products=376) I have had no issues with this product.

Thanks Aaron,
Im making sure i lok after her with some fresh oil.
I think ill do all the oils in everything except the motor at about 40000kms intervals. OR do you think i should do them more often?
I used CASTROL SYNTRAX 75W-90 in the transfer/diff and used Syntrans 75-85W in the gearbox.
Smoother changes already.
Castrol Axle EPX 80w-90 in the two diffs.
The Castrol oil guide page lists it as another item separately.
If oil filled, use CASTROL AXLE EPX 80W-90 or CASTROL EPX 80W-90, 1.7 litres. If grease filled, use Land Rover Part No. STC 3435. Refer to Dealer.
The D90 has just had EGR removed and will get larger intercooler and TD5 inside Stage 2 remap.
Koni Heavy tracks in a few weeks time.
Then ill work out if i want to change springs. Maybe not as heavy duty in the back.

using those high quality oils in a 90 that weighs little and possibly not towing 3ton caravans about then 40k intervals are just fine. however 10 years is a it long to leave it in there. are you the second owner? how long will it take you to see 80,000km?

The car was apparently a show car for Land rover initially for a year or two then I'm not 100% sure but I believe the guy I bought it off was the second owner and I am now the third.
He had servicing done by Ritter in Vic who i believe are pretty good mechanics
