My 8x5 box trailer has a GVM of 750kg and I want to increase this to 1000kg. I will be strengthening the chassis and putting on override brakes.

I guess I will need a heavier axle but before I do can anyone advise the load rating of the current 40mm round axle.

Thanks

there's a chart on Mullins Wheels: Axle & Hub Capacity Chart (http://www.mullins.com.au/tc-axles-hub-cap-chart.asp)

... but 40mm is light - axles are fairly cheap though

on my 6X4 I've got 50mm sq with parallel bearings (overkill) & D1 wheels

Thanks for that link - exactly what I was after. A 40mm square or 45mm round or square axle will do the trick. Just need to find a local supplier who is not a rip off.

Cheers

You will need to add brakes as well if you don't already have them.
