Only a few miles from where I used to live, the Lancaster did a fly pass, with a few others, lovely location in the Peak District.

Many thanks for the fantastic footage Juddy. Nothing beats the sound of 4 Merlins at low level. My father flew Lancs in 617 sqn at the end of the war so the Dambusters are very special to me.

Looks like the Lanc has been repainted with 617 sqn markings too - KC was their sqn code.

Cheers,
Jon

May I suggest that the moderators move this up to the General Chat section of the Forum as there are a lot of aircraft/flying buffs, and it would be educational to the younger generation!

Just noticed this thread...Thanks Juddy....what an awesome sight seeing the Lanc over the Dam.....those boys in 617 Sqd, and of course all the others in Bomber Command were simply, unbelievably brave.
I was watching a program recently about this subject & they were explaining the tail gunner's "position"....very hard, almost impossible to get in & out of, so if the plane was going down, he would probably be consigned to going down with it.
Unquestionable bravery & self sacrifice...we owe them everything.
Thanks, Pickles,

Hearing stories of flying Lancs below power lines is awe-inspiring. I have only had the pleasure of seeing the BoBMF Lanc fly once, down the Mersey in Liverpool - very low. They way they threw it around was impressive stuff.

Some interesting reading on KC-Apple

Years ago I read in an autobiography (but can't remember who!) of training on Lancasters in Canada, and aircraft returning to the field with engines overheating because the radiators were stuffed with wheat.
