Second Battery choice

Hello all,

I'm looking at adding a second battery to under the seat in my TD5 90 and was wondering what generally fits under there?

I currently have an original 110 a/h Landrover battery that's quite big.

Was thinking of a Century marine pro 720 but it will be a bit tight in the width 171mm,

My current battery runs front to back and looks like it cant be spun around to go door to door.

Any ideas appreciated?

I fitted an Optima 31T next to my OEM battery, had to turn the OEM one North South - quite a tight fit, but that was the biggest I could fit. I had a couple of spare 31T's and wanted to replace the OEM one, but could not make them fit, might try lying them on their side next time I'm messing around in the battery compartment.

if the rain stops today here in Melbourne, I'm hoping to install my dual battery system.

Not being able to find a good solution locally, I got a tray from Devon4x4 in the UK. It holds two Odyssey or Optima batteries (I'm using two Optima D34's).

Also installing a Traxide SC160 system.

Depending on the weather (and how smooth things go), I'll post some pic's tonight or tomorrow.

I'm installing in a 2013 110 - so depending on your year model should be similar.

Although by the sound of a battery tray are you locating them in the engine bay?
I'm trying to squeeze in under the passenger seat.
I had a rough go at turning the battery to face door to door last night with no success. Although I didn't fully disconnect it as I'm getting a nanocom this week and want to make sure any logs in the ecu come up when I connect.

Really hoping I can turn the main battery and fit the century marine pro next to it.
Was thinking of the piranha dbe180sx to it.

Any chance you can post some pics? I want to install a second battery too in my new 2013 110. Am in Melbourne and there are a lot of places I can take it but some things you've got to do them yourself these days.

I think you will find that the tray in question fits in the base of the battery box under the passenger seat.

To enable the battery to be turned door to door, and another battery located alongside, the tray provides a level base for both batteries, and a suitable means to clamp them down.

Ahhh cool.

Do you loose much height as its gets tighter for height towards the back of the car. Approx 200 mm high from raised section.
Does the tray go over the top of the higher sides or just countersink in between them and at same height?

I went from a D34 Optima jammed next to the standard battery (110 Puma) - this gives you a quick recharging battery that is a nice tight fit in the battery compartment. Not a lot of amp hours for running a fridge (55ah) but you can use pretty much all of it on a routine basis and it'll fully recharge much quicker than a conventional lead acid deep cycle battery.

I've since moved to the Devon battery tray, which will take two D34 batteries or two Odyssey PC1500 batteries under the passenger seat, but East-West. This is a great (but $$$) set up - solid mounting, quick charging, heaps of grunt for starting and winching and should be very long-lived.

With both set ups I've have used a Traxide SC160 - I would highly recommend one!

Daniel from Mulgo sells a 110ah battery that fits perfectly next to the starting battery and you can also fit his dual battery kit in the same space.

I also fitted buss bars for winch etc to keep the excess leads off the battery terminals

Hi Blade74,

as Bush65 said, the tray fits under the seat and rotates the batteries 90 degrees. It basically level's out the floor and provides a stable base for the batteries.

The batteries I have used (Optima's) get close to the seat base cover at the rear - clears the seat base cover by 25-33mm.
