Hi there,

Wondered if anyone can help, I'm having electrical problems on my TVR (I have a Disco 3 as my reliable car!), I live in Mosman and am looking for someone good with auto electrics who won't rip me off.

Here's a quick video of the problem:

Thanks

Have you tried another battery or had this one load tested?

It looks like the battery has good open circuit voltage but is incapable of delivering sufficient current to spin the starter and also the terminal voltage is dropping under load thus causing all the other weird electrical problems you are seeing. The battery could be high impedance. I've seen that before.

the battery readout on the dash display of 11.8volts is a giveaway. i would start with a decent charge in the battery, check earthing and lead tightness, too.

I missed that!
So did I... flickered on the screen.. only saw it when looking for it on second play!!

11.8 = flat battery.

...On second thoughts, obviously the vehicle has some horrific electrical issues that are usually a precursor to total failure, and even an onboard fire. I would be doing you a huge favour by flying up there and offering to take it down here to live with me in this cold, cold state that is so cold at the moment as to be very difficult to support combustion....Believe me you would be happy to see the back of that vehicle.

It's in getting a new Land Rover alternator at the moment at Henshaw Auto Electrical at Brookvale.

Peter (who runs it) seems pretty good.

That's the other Sydney based car (currently for sale at Classic Throttle Shop).

There's one in Brisbane and one in Perth.
