View Full Version : C51-032 Dobinsons springs (original height + 20mm) and standard height Bilsteins?

Hi all,
Has anyone tried the above combination? I am keen for a little extra height but given the stock springs have probably sagged (at 160 000ks) and towing horse float for a lot of its life. I am guessing it is sitting a lot lower than out of the factory at the moment.

I think that an extra 20mm that the Dobinsons give could be enough for me with taking the probable current sag into account.

My main question however is has anyone tried the above Dobinsons (C51-032) with standard height Bilsteins?

Do the shocks bump out or do they have enough extension for this small height increase?

How has this set up been ride wise? Not too rough without load?

Was it still necessary to move/ extent break lines and were any spacers/ mods needed for the clearance of driveshaft above cross member?

Has any sag occurred over time?

Thanks all in advance.

You will have no trouble with +20mm springs and standard shocks.

I put a 40mm lift in 2 years ago and left the standard shocks. It was only rarely in off road mode (SLS) that the rear shocks ever bottomed out, and never in normal driving mode.

I ended up with +50mm shocks in the rear and left the front standard.

Check out my thread
What rear suspension do you have sls or coils?

A claytons lift, if you like :)

Update/Edit: Realized OP hasn't logged on since 2020, so made a new thread (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2-a/300017-standard-height-shocks-bump-stops-20mm-front-lift-what-about-airbags.html#post3229932).

Hi mate, I'm considering the same. Did you end up going for it? Any advice?

Did your standard shocks do OK?

And did you change to lifted airbags + shocks in the back, or standard?

My situation:

I've got some C51-032 Dobinsons (20mm lift) from a friend, haven't fitted them yet. Rest of setup is factory (ACE, SLS, coils, shocks).

Not sure if to go for shocks for a 2 inch lift, or standard height ones?
