hey all, ive had some really good advice so far, and im wondering if i can push it a little further.

i put my 92 disco in to a tree and the tree won. im thinking ill get another disco and sawap all the good bits over. ie. engine, suspesion, wheels. i broke the power stearing pump, pushed back the F/L stearing arm, and preety much destoyed the grill and the F/L panel along with ripping out the snorkel and smashing the left battery. im not sure on the rest of the engine damage. doesnt look to deep tho.

the motor has done 197k and i had a full test done on it, so i know its sound. suspension is an iron man 2.5"lift and only 1000k old as are the big horn tyres, with brand new front wheel bearings.

if any one has any idea on the labour costs to perform the operation, and/or know of any one who would like a cash job to perform such a feat... i would love to know.

the left overs of the original disco can be taken for free. i dont have the space or the knowledge to do it my self.

im also wondering if series 1 and 2 are directly compatible so i know what to buy.

thanks for reading.

dave.

Disco 1& 2 parts are largely incompatible. There are also large differences between early Disco 1 (up to 94/95) and later Disco 1, though not as significant as between D1 & D2.

You'd probably be better off just hunting for a Disco 1 with the bits on that you already need, as they are so cheap these days. Then you can just swap your wheels over and flog the old one either to a scrapple or on eBay.

I have no idea on cost to pay someone to do it (a lot), but unless you're willing to part with enough to buy a brand new D4, you will need to use another D1 for compatibility. That way at least it's straight swapping of anything you want.

Also, you seem to be having problems posting pictures! Here you go:

is the chassis and the interior engin bay body work in shape?

if so that should be fixable.

I just happen to have a 94 body thats largely complete (rear door complete, right rear door and most door internals)

ITs now only slated for scrapping when I get round to it, if you're not in a hurry I'm happy to enter into negotiations for it (which will come surprisingly close to wait till I get back to darwin, organise the shipping of it and its yours)

Firstly how the hell did u do that ??????? did you have ur beer goggles on?

Secondly I don't think the damage there is as bad as you think, so long as your chassis and inner guards is ok I think it should mainly be bolt off , bolt on parts, plenty of parts around mate.

Anyway good luck with your project hope it all goes well

I think he was talking about mating 2 discovery ones, ie finding a donor vehicle which is another disco 1, I don't think he meant using a Discovery 2 as a stud and breeding one disco out of it;)

Yep from the photo it all looks bolt on and off get an old v8 and get the body and suspension/steering changed over. And if you try it your self its probably not that hard 2 maybe 3 days easy work:)

I was merely answering the question he asked, Mario.

Soooo, after a long agonising wait, and near death of the whole project. I've been saved.

She will be back on the road in a week or so! Stronger than ever. Minus a snorkel for the moment, but will give her a nose job asap as well as a couple more little things to make it all worth while.

Will post pics when she's back.

Tent... Check. Jerry cans... Check. Chilli bin...check.
