D4 Bearing Gone?

Hi guys, I've had a squeaky left front wheel for a few weeks. When I first looked I thought it brakes cause I noticed a mark where something rubbing on the inside rotor. Took a look this weekend and nothing rubbing. Then noticed the whole rotor assembly can be move about 2 to 3mm back and forth!

Checked behind where it comes through to the CV joint and can can see the whole thing is moving with the rotor.

Is this a failed bearing? There is no noise associated with a failed bearing but Im told there doesn't have to be.

Doesn't seem to be CV joint as no clunking noise as expected with a CV issue when turning. No CV leaking, grease, or cracking of boot either.
Doesn't seem to be ball joint as no movement there either.

Let my old man over the phone and he's convinced its a bearing.

Yep I would say your old man is right.

check the other wheel for play also - in fact, get both sides fixed. From what I have read both sides tend to fail with in a short period of each other.

That's a massive amount of play... I'd say bearing VERY gone.

I checked the right ride at the same time and solid as a rock.
I ordered it already so will just get another if needed.

Interestingly I thought the right side sounded like it had an issue but turned out to be the rotor. I priced bearings anyway from Karcraft 6 months ago and Tony said he hadn't heard of a D4 bearing going. Got a few of those comments on here as well.
When I called him today he had recently ordered 5 in and 5 went out immediately!

so hes ordering 25 next time :D

Karcraft where $260 for both left and right 6 months ago. I didnt ask this time around. Would have got them through them but they wouldn't be ordering for a few months.

Bearings are the OEM Timkens which LR use. Part No. LR014147 as confirmed in the system against my 2009 VIN.

Hi Rich,
Just done both mine on my RRS, took an hour a side. The best way I found to undo the hub locknut was to put a bar in the slot of the disc and rest it on the brake calliper. I found the drivers side a bit noisy so I replaced both. I got the complete hub assembly and I'm sure I paid about $150 for Timken bearings. I think I got them from TRS which are luckily in your state.
I was advised against fitting anything else apart from Timken. Watch the brake pad sensor they are delicate and break easily. I cracked one on my D3 and then had this intermittent brake fault coming up on the dash.
If you do break one they are relatively cheap. Good luck............
