Driving home from my dads 70th birthday last night and i get about 500m from home when i lose the power steering and tacho dies, serp belt me thinks and i'll whack the spare on before work tomorrow (this morning ) .
15mins of unwinding the old belt off the viscous unit and go to fit new belt , go to place it over the water pump pulley and thats when i notice it has about 10mm of play back and forth ( no leaks ) :o.
Normally this wouldnt be a problem and a new pump was on the shopping list anyway but we just happen to be flying to Bali tomorrow 9.30am and working today so no time to source one let alone fit it in time to drive to the airport and then leave my car at my works secure lockup parking for when we arrive.
Ah well at least i have the long weekend's activity organized.

What motor is in the beast?
If it's TD5 the water pump is on the back of the power steering pump drive.
The pulley and fan are mounted on a shaft through a bearing held into the timing case by a C clip.

Have a fun trip.

TDI Kyle, it was one of those things on the list to do before it failed so its no real drama, i'll just order one off the interwebs so that it arrives while i'm away.
