HELP Anyone, Everyone,

Before tearing the dash and centre console out, I am hoping that there is a kind soul out there that knows where the common earth point is for the AC Fans, Electric Windows, lighter, Climate control panel etc.......?????

These controls take turns in shutting down when I hit a bump and the volt meter on the lighter circuit drops to about 9.0 volts when it happens.

I am sure it's in there somewhere??

Cheers,
Shirley....

Not really the answer however the aircon fans have a permanent live feed and the speed is controlled via the earth resistance varied by the Hevac unit

It's beneath the right hand front seat along side the BECM according to the RAVE manual.

Hey Shirl

I'm having a similar issue that I noticed today. I'm getting intermittent dimming spikes in the Climate Control that's also affecting the lights, brake booster, and compressor. Just got the car back from a head job and cam replacement, I did notice that the mechanic ran a negative cable from the alternator back to the battery, I'm wondering if that is causing the issue.

Another thought...is it your battery on the way out or simply a loose or dirty contact at the battery or main fuse box. Worth a look as it's much easier to get into than the dash!

It may be worth checking the engine earth strap. It bolts on to the motor near your steering box, and bolts onto chassis on the shocker frame.
There should be two main cables on the back of your alternator, one goes directly to your battery, the other goes to your starter motor, then there's another from your starter to the battery.

Perhaps you should think about running these tests, it may help pin down the issue.

I would be wary of running extra cables etc on a P38, the best thing IMHO is to follow the original cabling runs and replace anything which seems suspect.

Did the mechanic give any reason for adding this "improvement"?

No, none at all until I rang him just a few minutes ago to find out and said ' oh yeah, I mentioned this to my boss' and he did not pass info onto me.

I might start a new thread, don't want pinch Shirl's post..
