I may be opeing a can of worms here, but are metal or plastic jerry cans better for carrying diesel (20L size, on roof racks)

When I was making BioDiesel, I used those black (with yellow caps/spouts) RHEEM brand containers. -
- Never had a leak, and the "O" rings would be relatively cheap & readily available, unlike jerrycan seals.
There is nothing as annoying as an empty 'jerrycan', it takes up space AND weighs a bit. Plakky ones are lighter, which is, I understand, highly desirable if carried high up on a 4WD's roof....
But steel (preferably a bit battered) are more in keeping with the Land Rover's image... :angel:

Plenty of threads on this - summary is both really as good as each other just depends on preference. Common aspect is make sure you get good quality and make sure anti chafing holders are used - applies equally to steel or plastic.
