Roof top tents and roof racks

I've seen a few pictures, mostly in South Africa I believe of FL2's with roof top tents. Has anyone on the forum here fitted one? Or for that matter has anyone fitted full length roof racks? I am thinking of custom fabricating a full length aluminium rack for my 2007. AFAIK there are 6 mounting points in the roof under the plastic trim, 3 on each side, possibly only M6 thread though.

Thoughts are that perhaps I can find and fit a length of aluminium flat bar in place of the plastic trim along the length of the roof and have this attach to the M6 mounting positions and then weld onto the flat bars to spread the weight a bit more evenly. I haven't actually had a good lookey at the roof yet to see what is involved but anything is possible hey/?:eek:

My roof tent is a light weight French design that isn't a hassle to get on and off the car. I only put it on for trips and it takes around 10 minutes doing it on my own. Normal designs are over 50 kgs and tend to be a major job to fix on plus a bit too much weight for happy driving in my view
