Has anyone had any long term experience with an Ashcroft ATB [truetrack] in the front of their defender ?
Are they as bullet proof as the Detroit lockers ?

Not sure which you mean.. I believe the Ashcroft ATB to be different to the Trutrac.. I'm running an Eaton Trutrac in the front of my 130, sourced from Lucky8 in the US. It works very well, still allowing both front wheels to rotate at different speeds when needed but still giving power to both wheels when on the wet stuff. One thing you will find though, the steering will have a tendency to center with more aggression. This is no bad thing IMO, and you get used to it, so much so that then when you get into another Fourby without one you think the steering is vague! Detroit in the rear work well with a Trutrac in the front... Would like to know more about the Ashcroft unit tho.... :)

The Ashcroft ATB is basically the same as a trutrack just stronger/ better quality it works the same I think it has twice as many gears.
I have one fitted in the front of a Defender 110 and quite frankly I have never noticed it certainly nothing negative.

Trutracks / ATBs while they are technically not stronger than a Detroit Lockers generally tend to give less trouble.
Their limited slip effectiveness has its limitations with tyre size though
I only have 32 inch tyres on mine but with the TD5 I can still squeal one front wheel on sealed roads with wrong driving.

I've only fitted mine recently, but love it. Done several trips and some stuff in the rough.. When others stopped, I lifted wheels and kept going! The Ashcroft center ATB sounds interesting... Should make the LT 230 very strong..... :)

Contact Isuzutoo-eh(Mark),as he was one of the first to have an ATB in this country, fitted to his 110. And he has used it in many different types of terrain;)

I've had a trutrack up front for about three years. I'm really disappointed as I was hoping to get a real locker down the track. Now I'm struggling to justify the expense of a rear lock as I haven't been bogged since.
Seriously, I've been very happy with it. Fit and forget. Its not a locker, but is certainly gets you further.

I've got mates with tru-track front and rear on a 300Tdi110 and a D2a. Both are really happy with them.
I've got ARB air lockers, which came with the 110, but if I had to spend money, I'd get the tru-tracs front and rear. Cheaper, less complicated, less likely to fail, positive traction all the time....
Neither has reported any steering issues. On the 110 it actually reduces straight line vagueness.
