Wheres the fuse hiding

Gday All,

Jumped into the D3 tonight and bugger me no stereo, everything else works, no faults, just no stereo.

Been trying to find the fuse but cant see what its listed under in the manual.

Anyone point me, tried the media fuse , but it seems ok.

No stereo as in no power at all - or just no sound. I have had the latter a few times and I understand it is a "safety" measure when the battery is down - you sometimes get the low power message but this happens when the battery is even worse.

After the car has been running for a while and you switch off and back on the radio comes back.

If you have no power to the unit at all then I would be checking the relevant fuse/s.

Gday Garry,

No power to the unit at all, checked the handbook and cant see a fuse marked stereo, so must have some other name like audio centre or something.

Checked the one named media player but it seems ok.

This is gonna sound flunky; Do a Hard Re-set.
i.e. Open the bonnet, remove ignition key and wait for the car to 'go to sleep' (suggest opening driver's window first, just in case!), then remove both the cables from the battery terminals and touch the two cables together for a few moments.

Just to be clear, you're touching the two 'loose ends' together here; DO NOT be connecting the two terminals on the battery together. That would be bad. Very bad.

Doing this makes the little mouse inside the dashboard run backwards on his wheel for a bit, which tricks the radio into behaving itself!
(or it could be something completely different)

Well finally found the wiring diagrams in the dodgy service manual odn disc I bought off the internet, and its fuse 53 in the fuses behind the glovebox.

My fuse seems ok but according to the diagram it goes thru a link in the engine bay, but not sure how you can check these.

Will try the hard reset and see what happens.

Well bugger me, that mouse must've run flat out cause it worked.

I was a bit unsure as to when the car goes to sleep, but remember reading its when the Parkbrake light goes out on the dash.

Noticed the Neg had a bit of build-up on the terminal (Calcium ? ) so cleaned that , the cables wouldn't actually reach each other so linked them with a spanner and then connected them back to the battery terminals.
Funny that with both terminals disconnected the radio still remembers the stored channels.... anyway no complaints.

Yep. Had the same as well and was probably triggered by low battery/dodgy starter motor as well as we were camping for a few days when it occurred to us. Was actually nice not to have the noise maker for a few days.

Yep you had a low battery for some reason - the car shuts down non essential systems to ensure the car has enough for starting. A hard reset was probably not needed and a soft reset would have probably worked assuming the battery was back up after driving around for a while - but whatever works is good.

I actually went to the trouble of looking at any likely fuse first - skinned knuckles and much swearing. Hard reset fixed the problem
