hiya guys,

my auto selector used to get really hot....I mean REALLY hot!

I couldn't touch the plastic bits it was that hot...had a lightbulb moment (rare!) and removed the small bulbs that were there as they were on all the time.....bazinga! problem solved, but now I cant see what gear I am in in the dark!

question, what is the correct wattage for those lights?

I think someone just whacked in any light that fitted!

cheers

Laurie

On the LEDs - I replaced my heater control bulbs with them, but only the middle bit of the control panel lit up at night - the illumination of the panel needs light coming out of the side of the light source to get the full spread through the plastic, not just from the front like the LEDs I bought. I replaced with standard so I could see the controls. Are all LEDs the same, or are there some that illuminate like incandescent bulbs?

Have a thorough look around on ebay. there are literally tens of thousands of listings for LEDs.
Use your lamp base type as part of your search description (T10, B15 etc ) and you will cut down the search results.
there are dozens of different shapes and styles of front diffusers and multi LED packages in each lamp style.
I went out on a big LED experimental buying spree early last year, comparing expensive name brand units and mid priced units and el-cheapo to try in different applications.
So far I've installed about 100 in different vehicles.
the only complaints for the el-cheapos have been not water proof and some variation in light intensity. But used inside they are all working fine so far.

How about a review / summary of your findings in relation to LR vehicles?

Would be a great addition to the electrics forum.

That could be a reasonable idea.
I'll look at assembling some record of the types I've got and see if I can collect a few photos. If I can, I'll see what I can knock up.
