and even check the oil
Wow, wow... slow down. If I'm to become a mechanic, you're going to have to start with the basics please. ;)

Wow, The GenY s will love this. Something that tells them exactly what to do so they do not need to actually study or learn anything.
One of my mates' daughters must have had the alpha version of this years ago. She topped up the oil on an Alfasud by filling the engine to the brim.
It was a long drive to Geelong from Reservoir to empty some out.
I guess I started to learn this stuff when I was 8 MANY years ago when my dad used to get me to sit on the mudguard of our 36 Studebaker pouring petrol into the carby to help it to start as he rolled it down the hill at the side of the house.

Wow, that's totally mean. We're, like, fully pro at learning stuff. Don't be jealous just cos you don't have our SWAG.

...if you're stranded on the side of the road because you're out of coolant, it could help you immediately get on your way instead of having to wait for AAA to arrive.
That has to be the worst example to choose...

Would be useless on a Land Rover, it'd just keep saying "Check for oil leaks"

Not a bad idea actually. Very basic at the moment, but give it time and I can see this really working in future coupled with a Google glasses type device instead of a iPad.
Think of the potential not just in the automotive mechanical field. For medical emergencies for example.

Ahem, well.
There's no point in translating, but it's the equivalent of proclaiming very loudly: "I'm an illiterate, obnoxious, Gen Y, trend following sheep. It is permissible to throw rocks at me"

Ah, now that I understood! :arms:
The wonderful Gen Y, and their ability to like, put like in like every sentence, whether or not you like it. My 16 year old daughter gets very tetchy when I pull her up on that. :D

OMG, like, Raves are like, fully sick. Best place to like, get smashed and like, pick up chicks.

Back on topic, it seems to be a high tech way of saying RTFM.

Don't sell yourself, or your generation short. I have the utmost respect for my Gen Y children, they are a lot smarter than I was at their age, [ and they remind me at every opportunity] However, experience can't be learned from an app, so don't sell us old farts short, either. I regard it as a team effort, they teach me how to use these new fangled devices, I teach them how to grow vegies & catch fish. win, win. Bob

Well Bob, I certainly don't sell myself short. Probably a bit too tall if I'm perfectly honest. As such I fully understand what you're saying, some of the cleverest people I've met are from my generation.
But, at the other end of the scale, I see my fellow teens (only for another 3 months) doing some insanely idiotic things.
