Help,
the fuel usage on my '95 D1 V8 is out of control. Today towing a 7x5 fully enclosed trailer weighing 600-700kg's it used 40l/100km:o
On a recent trip with the roof loaded with tent and soft stuff it used 33l/100 on one section and a best of 26l/100. Around town if i really drive gentle it uses 26/100.
These figues are all when running on LPG.
The vehicle has recently has a full overhaul of the electrics, new leads, plugs, coil etc and is running great, but the lpg usage seems ridiculous.
Any idea's???

I had mine loaded to the gunwales with camping gear, a second spare tyre on the roof rack along with a double swag and some jerry cans etc etc etc (read bulk drag), and returned a similar fuel consumption.
It was petrol only and I estimate an all up weight of three tonnes. Pushing a mean headwind toward Tibooburra meant I couldn't get past 3rd gear and 60kph was it.
Other than that I would get 5-7 km/L around town.
Anyway, that's been my worst case experience. After all, it's only a little engine....
Matt.

This is a feature of LR V8's when heavily loaded / towing.
Simply run a belt from your fuel gauge, as it will be spinning so quickly you can run a compressor off it.... :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Two possible aids to fuel economy:
Get your distributor professionally regraphed for LPG, or at the least make sure the idle timing is around 10 degrees BTDC and both the vacuum and mechanical advance are in good working order.
Add an oxygen sensor to your exhaust system and run an LPG fuel processor applicable to your LPG system. Not hard, I do this to most of my LPG conversion jobs on D1/RRC V8s.
Also havng "all new" ignition components means nothing, standard quality parts will run quite well with the mixture set too rich. It's a common dodge by tuners to mask standard ignition system performance by adjusting up the gas flow. Have a look in the exhaust outlet after a hard run and see how much soot has built up (clean it with steel wool before the run). A properly tuned LPG engine will be slightly black with very little excess soot.
