Hi All,

As some may have noticed I finally have another Landy of my own, a 1983 Range Rover.

I now want to get out and enjoy it, however the problem with being 18 is that all the guys I know my age have normal cars  , so I only actually have 1 mate that's local to me with a fourbie (V8 D1).

I don't fancy going out by myself for obvious reasons and want to do some decent tracks (Blue Mountains etc.), so looking for some kind of club or group to join up with.

The car has 32 MT's on it, and will have a winch shortly, and I plan to build it up slowly to be a good trail truck.

The sort of thing's I'd like to do is fairly heavy 4WDing (as heavy as possible with the car spec'd as is), and day or weekend trips would be the go at this stage in my life, camping and challenging tracks interest me!

So can anyone recommend a club or group to join up with? Doesn't have to be 1 make, but a few Landy's would be good company :D

Cheers
Will

As Slunnie posted, the LROCS is the biggest Land Rover oriented club in Sydney (and surrounds) we have a good group of younger members involved in trips and trucks of all types and styles. Our trips range from multi-week desert tours to freelander friendly forest trips to tuff trips.
The club also offers basic 4WDing training by people who know Rover products well, you won't be asked to lock your hubs in our club! (Unless you convert a Series to have freewheel hubs of course...)

Of course there are also forum trips, though its been a bit quiet around Sydney of late.

Sound's like I'll have to give LROCS a look in, also wondering if there are any smaller clubs worth a look-in as well.

RVR110 John is the president of another (non-Landy) club, he's southern Sydney based, so might be more local?

Think I was next to him at a set of lights in the D2 last week...

I guess the advantage of LROCS is it can go on historic plates, oh and the meetings are at the same places i go for the VCCA ones I attend.

nice rr. I recently joined (after growing up with it since a kid) the
Discovery 4WD Club of Australia (http://www.discovery4wdclub.com/)
with a mate of mine (both in disco coupes)
age range varies as do the difficulty of trips and the types of cars
a few landrovers and then the rest of makes.

...... freelander friendly forest trips.......

Blah blah.....that would be for Freelander pussy drivers. What about heroic and manly Freelander tuff drivers that take their little dynamos into impossible places? :D

Indeed some Freelanders owners show how it's done in the ruff stuff wth the tuff trucks!

Oh touche...I can't argue with that one. :) My specialty is sticking short arsed wheels in ruts that are too deep.

I bought my first Rangie when I was a member of the Toyota LC Club.

I got sick of the continual rubbishing by other members because I drove a Land Rover so I joined the LROC.

Don't jinx it!!

Interestingly though its the only car that I've ever driven up on that rock (further than pictured) that has done it with the CDL unlocked and no TC. That's out of a D1 with no sway bars, a D1 with sway bars, a D2 and an 80 series cruiser.

Ah! I was thinking about the LC club, just so I had people to show up ;) but I can imagine there would be some narrow mindedness going on in that camp.

Well there must be a V8 D2 that gets 6l/100km somewhere in Sydney because Mike takes his Freelander everywhere, Vic high country tours or weekend fun trips!

Thanks Mark :D I've taken the Freelander everywhere that I've taken my Jeep. I had to put a locker in the Jeep so it could keep up with the Freelander. I have to admit, the underside of the Freelander looks like a war zone though...

By the way, I belong to the Subaru & Recreational 4wd Club. It meets at Ermington monthly and does a trip every year with The Land Rover club. As a club it's really good, plenty of trips (day, weekend or extended), nice people, a big range of cars from vanilla Subarus to tricked up Land Cruisers. Very friendly.

Nice Range Rover,1983? Have you changed to post 86 wheel hubs as you have big stud Hi-Line/Vogue wheels fitted? as my 85 still has the small studs and I can't use the later wheels.

cheers

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'm going to put in an allocation for membership to the LROC in July.

Hi Uncle Ho,

Yes it is an 83, with Vogue alloys. They were on it when I got it, what is different about the studs or hubs? I have a set of steelos too under the house and they bolt on fine, both using standard nuts. I noticed the inside of the alloys is clearanced, not sure why but they still locate on the spigot, but I haven't had a very detailed look.
