Sorry I can't help mate, but the diesels do make a bit of noise when under power. When cruising, it is fairly quiet, not whisper quiet, but pretty good.

I just had a drive of a 4.4 BMW V8 and was surprised it was not super quiet inside after all the things I had read. Back into the P38 and I am thinking it`s pretty nice in here. Still would like the power of the L322 which unsurprisingly felt very sprightly after the P38.

Tyre choice makes a big difference to the road noise in these cars.
If you are on highway treads, run your hand over the top of the tread in both directions, if you feel edges slightly raised, as opposed to smooth and level, then chances are that they will make a good deal of noise at speed.
