My first post outside of the introduction.

I picked up my 1998 Disco today go about about 3/4 hr from home of a 4 hr trip and the Battery light has come on.
The Volt meter installed is showing 17.2, where prior to light coming on it was reading around 14.6 maximum.

I'm just not sure if it's the alternator or regulator (Do they have them in them?)
Any suggestions please?

Hi Rickster and it’s most likely your reg.

If you need to drive, keep the trips as short as possible.

17.1v is not a problem for a few minutes but any long drives and you will cook your battery.

And while none of your electronics is effected by this sort of voltage, you may blow light globes.

PS Welcome aboard.
