Wired to the roof of a D4?

Justwondering if anyone has wired to the roof of a D4? I’m looking at attaching a UHF aerial to myRhino Platform roof rack and looking for some way of running the wires from theroof into the D4 via the roof rails or some other method? Searched the forum and the web but could’ onlyfind earlier Discovery 1 & 2’s, but I’m sure it’s possible other thandrilling holes in the roof!

Yes you can run the cable up the rear pillar and though the rubber wire tube that connects the tailgate to the body, then up and into the black trim that runs along the roof.

I am not sure if the other posts show, but I ran my cable through the engine bay then under the trim that runs up the side of the windscreen there is space under this cover between the glass and frame. You can then remove the rain gutter covers and run under that in the gutter then just drill a hole and put a gromet in the cover where you need the wire to come out on the roof. I posted some pics a while ago of my install under a uhf thread.

Has anyone tried one of those antenna that sticks to the windscreen (http://www.prestigecom.net.au/Laser-472-UHF-On-Glass-UHF-CB-Antenna) (like some of the newer radio antenna)? I'm wondering how well they work, and if they would be an improvement on the handheld antenna. Ideally I want all my additions to be discrete.

I have one from RFI Industries for the GME mounted under front passenger seat. I just pushed the cable into the plastic trim between A pillar and the windscreen. The D4 has lots of space to push the cable down behind the dash and it comes out behind the glovebox. From there just push the cable up between the carpet and centre console plastic so it comes out under the front passenger seat. As I don't use the UHF that often, I just put a ciggie plug on the power cable to plugin when required. The UHF handset has all the controls on it.

Without tuning the antenna ie. straight out of the box, reception is fine. I have managed to borrow some test kit from a proper UHF specialist to tune the antenna - managed to get the VSWR down quite a bit from out-of-the-box.

Best thing is when the Disco gets swapped out at end of lease, all the radio kit comes with me. BTW, this is the same radio setup I had in the FL2 that got transplanted to the D4 - just had to order some new double sided tape things.
