Greetings Everyone,
After doing a bit of research I think I have found the Disco for me. I had it inspected today by an independent body as I live a little far away. A 1998 300TDI with 141000K and a documented service record that is often hard to find. Serviced every 5000K without fail. Timing belt attended to twice already. Vehicle looks fantastic for a car of its age, always garaged and no rust. Loads of extras including ARB Bull bar and winch, spotties (although not currently working), light and bonnet protectors, side-steps, heavy duty tow bar, snorkel and 2 inch lift. Tyres about 60%. Two issues noted on inspection as follows:
- HAS AN OIL LEAK FROM THE TOP AREA OF THE MOTOR, POSSIBLE FRONT CAM SEAL, POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET, MAY JUST NEED AWASH DOWN & REASSESS, ONLY INVESTIGATION WILL TELL
- POWER STEERING BOX IS LEAKING & WILL NEED AN OVERHAUL, APPROX, $600> $1000, DEPENDS ON REQUIRED PARTS.
The owner has agreed to to sort out the leak in the power steering box. He has known about this for a while and believes it is simply the seal. As for the leak noted at the top of the motor. I am wondering what the likely expense would be to sort out either of the potential causes for such a leak. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers in advance.
