I've lost one of my key fob remotes for the disco 3 and was looking into alternatives to paying the full price at the dealer for a new one.

There's a guy on ebay selling 'aftermarket' ones for $50 but I'd need to get it programmed. Anyone know how to do that - if it's even possible or should I just open the wallet again at the dealers? I still have one key, this is just a spare really.

Cheers,

stu

Here's the link to the sale

Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 NEW Full KEY FOB Remote With Chip AND 433MHz | eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140980209479)

and the sellers reply to my question about the units

hey, as far as I know this is the one that fits Discovery models however please note, that this an aftermarket item and some dealers find it difficult to program the item which is not genuine so you must find really smart guy who'd be able to do it. Regards

That case is being sold in Aust for $35 with uncut key but no chip, one of my originals was fairly worn and cracked in one button so have bought the case and swaped internals, works fine.
When we thought we had lost one of ours and made enquiries we were told that a replacement had to come from GB and they needed the vin no. No one in Aust could programe them !
Bl**#*. Expensive too was quoted over $750 by 2 dealers.

Is 433Mhz the correct frequency for Aust - I do know that Aust and the UK use different frequencies.

It looks like the correct frequency - my remaining key has 433.92 Mhz written on it.

Last year I got my spare direct from the UK, for approx $145 landed here, then I used my MSV2 to reprogramme it to the car.

Do a trawl of the UK websites. I think Britparts was the one I used. I did supply my vin so the key was already cut.

Reprogramming is a 5min job from any competent garage with the capability.

Hey all,

I'm looking at a replacement remote key fob for my 2010 discovery 4. Does anyone know if is the 434mhz version used in Australia? I think it's only the U.S. that uses the 315mhz but want to be sure before I order!..
