Hi Everyone,
So don't post alot, but thought if anyone wants to lend an idea on hand let me know. I am about to embark next week on a number of serious upgrades to my Black RRS 2010 TDV8 HSE...
After an insane amount of research and stuffing around i've finally got everything lined up. It was not easy but i did achieve it.. Happy to post some pic's if you are all interested.. Here's what's happening...
108lt LRA Aux Fuel Tank in rear. (Already in and working!)
Opposite Lock Bullbar (Steel) - Is Going on next week custom for the RRS
Opposite Lock Rear Wheel Carrier (takes about 3 weeks to get made custom, but is on order.
Great Whites Light Bar LED going on Bullbar
RUNVA 12000 Winch
UHF Antenna Radio etc...
Safari Snorkel Custom modified to fit the RRS TDV8 and will seal up. (this is an similar D4 SDV6 snorkel... but modified..
Traxide Dual Battery system SC80 (already onboard)
Roof Rack (biggest i can get, but have a few options still to confirm)
Mitch Hitch Towbar upgrade
LandRover Light Protection Guards Front/Rear
Green Oval Experience items.... :)
6x 18" Black Rims for the RRS
Cooper ZEON LTZ Tyres to fit above.. (so i have 2 spares)
GOE Height Rods
GOE Compressor, Transmission and Front Plate
GOE Rock Sliders and side steps
Custom Rear setup with Waeco fridge and drawers etc, with cargo barrier
Will probably buy EPIRB and a few other safety features.
Anything i missed? Happy to have forgotten something? This car is about to do a full lap (and more) around OZ and be taken everywhere!
I think once complete the car should be pretty nice. Hopefully not to heavy and will be setup for serious offroad and getting around. I've managed to confirm now the above 100% and have started the process. The majority of opposite lock gear will be done next week.
Cheers

hi Justin,
very keen to see pictures of the result. Who did you get to do the custom snorkel and bull bar. I had been told (admittedly by landrover) that it couldn't be done.

all being done with Opposite Lock and Offroad 4WD Accessories here on the Gold Coast. Actually i was very impressed with OL, most others just said go away you have to be dreaming. But aparently OL is now doing alot of great custom work and working on finishing an ADR compliant Bull bar (which i am getting)
My RRS 2010 has the same internal layout as a D4 SDV6 (under bonnet/air intake internals), the external side needs some custom brackets/layout done, which they will do there with assistance from Safari. We even have pulled the specs for the V8 air flow requirements and compared them to the TDV8 to ensure airflow etc is all good. There is some minor modification required on the outer panel work. The snorkel is something we are going to do but is going to require a little thought as i have become a beta case for them. But i am happy if it gets me my snorkel!

Very Nice Justin.
Even in writing it sounds good, albeit heaps better in real life.
Cant wait for the pics of the finished product & the lap of our great country.;)

Hi Justin,
The only extra's I would think about are an on board dedicated air-compressor , a GPS equipped EPIRB and "Hawkeye" or "Black Box MSV2" to reset or in the case of the MSV2 also re-calibrate the on-board systems.
My dedicated air-compressor is from a Classic RR and has a 125psi 12v cutoff switch with nylon airlines run to the front and rear of my car, each end has nitto airline fittings for the quick pumping up of tyres or air mattress etc.
Have fun, tis a great country out there.

i'll look into those other epirb's etc.. I am going to acquire a HEMA for offroad maps. (although i don't mind the RRS) it's just not great offroad..
The air compressor. Well. I've been struggling with that. I have a brand new CMK on board in the caravan/camper.. I did this as i can pull the car up beside the camper to hose down and clean/pump tyres all that stuff.
However i am planning on a couple of trips (i.e the dessert in AUG) that is 3 weeks without the camper, however others will have onboard compressors so i am still unsure whether i need to put one in the rangie and then also have one onboard the camper..?

As you seem to be serious about going offroad a bit you seem to have forgotton the two most important things:
LLAMS (yes I appreciate you have rods but LLAMs is better and more convenient over variable terrain) and
the GOE remote suspension inflation kit.
Also - I understood the windscreen angle and the D3/D4 is different so how is your snorkel mods going to take this into account.
Good luck with it.

I hope when you do the lap around Oz you also take a flame suit as there will be many a toynismit driver who will tell you what an idiot you are driving such an unreliable, ill equipped vehicle for the outback.
I had that a couple of times last year on our half lap. Be warned you cannot argue as in those cases you will be beaten to death by ignorance and stupidity. Walk away and just be happy you are driving the most comfortable and capable vehicle for the conditions.
Congratulations for the thought and effort in getting all done and providing the vehicle for the prototype bull bar and wheel carrier. It is people like you who make the road much easier for others wanting the same fittings.

Hi Gary,
I decided to stay away from llams as I don't want to roll up at a landrover dealership and have them not do warranty work. The car is under a full warranty until 2015. After my research the llams will void suspension warranties. I've had suspension problems before, which is why I prefer the rods and only when I need them.
I am actually lookin at the GOE inflation kit. Gordon has been very helpful and understands I am doing a lot of tweaking.
As for the snorkel, according to our direct measurements the difference between the a pillar is minimal. There is a small change we are going to attempt the fit and customise the mounting brackets. The snorkel still has a question mark on it but between all the parties involved they think we have a 95% shot at making it work and making it look very neat. Just will require a little customisation.
Plane fixer, oh yes I've had that a lot. I could tell u a funny story about an idiot in a LC tough dog fit out truck that laughed at what I am doing offroad. About an hour later he was bogged to his axles, saw me coming and started laughing at me trying. I walked straight through got out, looked at the wife and said, gees I didn't think that was hard. Lets just say he shut up very quickly. Most are noobs.
I've owned landrovers now for 8 years had 4 of them and love them. All of them offroad. They are awesome cars..
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll post some photos when we get through the process

Hi Gary,

Takes about 5 minutes to disconnect and remove. Probably less time than it would take to remove the rods before a service.
Did you think about using a modified (as in sealed) RAI for the snorkel.
Cheers

Hi Garry, yes defantely looked at an RAI. However if we can make this option work I think. Would prefer it. There is no guarantee. But have offered myself as a Guinee pig...
I have mantec in the uk they have confirmed that and rai will fit the car.
Hmm, I'll look into the llams, as my understanding is there are components ie a switch that can't be easily removed. I spoke to a few places about llams, they all get stressed when I talked about warranty, where as a couple of rods are easier.
I accept that really warranty they will try and have to claim it was caused by the llams, I think at the moment I'd prefer to avoid having that conversation with them. I'm still undecided.
Has anyone had experience with landrover and suspension warranty with llams fitted? Did they try and get out of a claim? I'd be interested to know probably like others.?

Yes you are correct - however if you are worried about the warranty side then simply leave it hanging loose behind the lower steering column panel and let it hang out when offroad.
Like what you are intending - good luck with it.
I know that OL have been developing a RRS bull bar for a while now - just make sure that what gets fitted to your car has the Certified for your model RRS placard fitted to it - I am sure they will but I would make sure.
Cheers

I had the front lower control arms replaced (worn ball joints at 50k), and the left rear airbag replaced under warranty late 2012 and then a "gallery pipe" in the air suspension for a persistent slow leak all with LLAMS fitted. No concerns were raised by the LR dealer who accepted the claim during service at end of warranty period. I was quite impressed by the service I received actually. Good luck with the mods. The only other thing I would add ( in addition to Garry's suggestions) for remote travel would be a tyre pressure monitoring system. I have the TyreDog with 6 wheel display so camper is monitored too. Regards, David

OL RRS bullbar - i saw the Welshpool fit one may be 6-8 weeks ago to a white RRS it was out the front when i was running late to a meeting close by, i ended up being even later!
Didnt grab a snap but i'm sure they would have some.

I am sure with rods or LLAMS there computers can pick up things that have occurred with suspension heights ? So hiding the fact that you have them won't making any difference.
Anyway, the onus is on them to "prove" that the rods or LLAMS caused the fault....not just try to say the believe it caused it.
Would be the same with a whole heap of accessories.
I know of a person that had front airbag raising issues and the northern LR dealer tried to say his winch and bull bar caused the system to play up. Simple fix...he weighed the front and showed them the weight was within bag capability....LR fixed the issue without cost. I would have told them to go and way and do it themselves due to them needing to prove it.
It's really hard for them to prove it I think.

Gordon from Goe puts some snaps on this forum of it ... I think it was he. He may have even been involved with its development ?

I did, and I was ;)
In terms of removing the GOE rods for service work etc, it's around 30sec of effort to do. Some dealers will ignore rods/LLAMS - some will run screaming to their corporate lawyers. Ditto with dual battery systems. If you're travelling the country, best to not take the risk and remove either system if fitted, before going to the dealer (assuming the fault involves those systems).
Cheers,
Gordon
