New tyre help please

Hi fellas,

I am needing to replace my tyres on my 2010 Freelander 2 HSE.

I have the 19' Rims and want something with more rubber than the Contis it came with.

I would really appreciate some recommendations.

well after a heap of googling I have found these to be the only options I have...


Coopers CS4 235/55R19

Maxxis 245/55 R19's

Hancook Ventus 235/55R19

Michelin Latitude Tour HP 235/55R19

Pirelli Scorpion Verde 235/55R19

Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport (235/55R19)

I really wanted more of an all terrain but no go in the rim size, if I could go to a 255 then I would have more options, there only 245 I have found is the Maxxis but it is not really an AT either.

Does any one have thoughts on these?

I am thinking either the Coopers or Pirellis at this stage.

I have Maxxis on my FL1 and it is on its 2nd set. They were a road pattern but that ok for me. Got 45000km on the on the front only.

When the noisy Bridgestones wear out on my FL2 I will be replacing with Maxxis.

I'm running Maxxis AT700 at 245/65/17 on mine at the moment because they are good value at around $240 each. I've been caught before though with AT and HT tyres in the same brand being totally different. 255/55/19 would bump you about 10mm over legal. If you could find 255/50/19 then you would be legal. My 245's don't come close to touching on full lock. A spare at 255 might make the rear cargo floor bulge up.

On another forum I have read that the Pirelli scorpion ATR in 255/55r19 fit OK but will put your speedo out a bit.

Another option is the Toyo 245/55r19 open country. These are not ATR but seem to have a bit more of an aggressive treat pattern.

My original 19" Continentals are also almost due for replacement (45,000kms). I have done a fair bit of off road work with them including soft sand and they have never let me down (as long as you remember to lower the tyre pressures!), so I would be interested in hearing of your final decision.

I went down to a shop and they said that 255/55/19s will be fine. THey Popped on a General Grabber in that size to check clearance and it was fine at full lock. Gotta good price on some Cooper Zeon LTZ and will be going for them. I also called LR to check if my extended warranty will still be valid and they said that it will be fine. Just gotta check out what the speedo should say for the main speeds I will be using.

Has anyone had any experience with Cooper CTS tyres on FL2's. They look as though they can do a bit of off road work and should last. But I am a bit worried about ride quality and noise.

I got 35000 k out of continentals it was born with (235/65(?) r19), at about $640 each, pretty much the same with Bridgestone hp sports for $550 each.
Changed size slightly to 245/55 r19 and am now on second set of Maxxis bravo 600 at about $300 each. Still getting about the same mileage, no other issues with fit or handling.
Had the speedo checked with the new size and it was more accurate than with the original size.
