Having recently seen photos of severe rust on the mating faces between the removable chassis cross member and the longitudinal members recently I am wondering what the best treatment for this area is. I have recently had the whole underside rust proofed, but as I currently have the removable cross piece out for some gearbox work I thought it would be a goo idea to treat this area which must be quite prone to corrosion.

Any suggestions?

I get under my 110 every 2 months or so and spray everything[except pads] with inox lanox in a trigger spray bottle, works for me and stops the mud from sticking, i would average a litre at a time and the 5l bottle from tradetools is approx $60

Valvoline Tectyl 506 - available from Blackwoods in 400g spray cans, 1 liter and 4 liter paint tins.

The stuff is a solvent based cavity wax that's not biodegradable like fish oils or lanolin. It dries to a honey coloured waxy layer is non tacky to touch and it can be removed if necessary with mineral turps. It's a spray and forget products for the insides of chassis members and can be touched up if scratched on the exposed underside of the chassis. It's not cheap, but a justifiable spend on the longevity of your Landy.

It's the closest thing to UK style wax oil available for hot weather.

It does not convert rust, but does a very good job in preventing it starting and keeps it away if you've used a bespoke rust converter.

Cheers,

Lou

Ile second that its good gear but not cheap. And there's a professional version of it too but needs a special applicator gun

There are DIY Waxoyl substitutes, here's a link to one that I'd like to try:
