no its not left hand thread.

undo it the normal way, put your spanner on it and a tap or 2 with a hammer will loosen it.

put a bit of cardboard infront of your fan so radiator dosent get damaged when it falls off.

It took me about 8 hours on my D2 TD5 first time as some IJIT had threadlocked it on, which I assume has happened to you.
I made up a tool from angle to fit 2 of the 3 bolts, jammed it on the guard where the battery usually is in a D2 , then whacked the spanner with a 5lb lump hammer, and it finally gave up. I didn't heat it much as there is a seal right next to the thread,.
I now have the proper Draper 36MM spanner but used a 32MM open end which I ground out to 36MM, which is probably more suited to being whacked as it is more substantial.

Think of it as the motor turns, it would tighten up the bolt if the fan was held.

Happy Days.

Has anyone removed a Puma 2.2 fan. Is it right or left thread?

It will be which ever way the motor turns. The fan will self tighten with load and the motor screwing in to it.

It's right hand thread on the Puma as well. I ended up making the tools to remove it, and now it's a dream. I always give the threads a spray of lanotec before I reassemble, as it can lock on pretty hard with time otherwise.

Hopefully the picture will come through. The for the nut is obvious. The other tool locks into 2 of the holes in the pulley wheel.

Thanks Brid,

So you remove it opposite to the motor rotation. ie CCW when looking front to back
Ive just made a pulley holder for a TDV6 and decided to make a universal tool for the puma as well. I will post a drawing with dimensions when I get a few minutes
The TDV6 is left handed thread. I believe TD5 is right handed

I doubt it. Turn it the same direction as the motor to take off. If it was the other way, if it ever became loose the motor would just screw it off.

Its the direction of the fan pulley not the crankshaft that determines which way you unscrew the fan hub. Serpentine belts can drive either way depending on the direction of wrap.

Yes your correct. So start the motor and see which way the fan spins. Thats the way to undo it.

Happy Days

Contrary to the 2.2 workshop manual (see extract below) the the fan turns CCW when viewed from the front. Ive just had alook. So it now makes perfect sense to remove it CCW

What size spanner for the 2.4 puma fan nut?
Is it the same as the td5?

Cheers,
Jon

I made my spanner jaws at 36mm, for the 2.4 Puma. Length is 400mm. Pins for locating in pulley holes are 68mm apart.

Here is a pic and a drawing of a pulley holder I made to help remove the fan.

Its made from 40 by 10 mm flat bar. The two spigots are 15mm long and 9.8 mm diam. (3/8"). Just plug weld them into the holes

If you print the drawing, on A4 to actual size, you can use it as a template, but check the critical dimensions

replace fan ass 6-7 weeks ago no problem after getting the old one off
went for a drive over the week end and as usual check everything under bonnet before i go and found the the fan had come off .. ok so refit fan ass and started motor turn motor off and guess what fan spins off , refit again and gave the spanner a couple of extra hard hit with hammer hopefully that will stay on but is that the solution or should i be looking for another cause
its a 110 td5 2002 model
thanks
