Defender alternator bearings

Advice please. I have a perfectly good and fairly new alternator with wrecked bearings. Can anyone advise where I can get a replacement set of bearings?

If you have a close look at the bearings you should see numbers on them. Go to a bearing shop and quote the numbers and you can get them fairly cheaply and fit them yourself. Usually they are double shielded bearings (to keep the grease in).

Be careful, my mate had his alternator rebuilt by a great auto sparky who looks after his fleet of many cars, trucks and machines. In all the years he has been doing the work it was his first stuff up.

The replacement bearing seized and you could not even start the 130. It is a 97 300tdi 130. One of the local landy experts here said it is an odd size bearing and you need to replace the alernator. That was 2 years ago anyway.

There was similar problem with another bearing on them too, might have been an idler, but you can get that bearing now.

They'll have numbers like 6201 or something similar. If the numbers arent visible take the inner and outer shells in (without mixing them up) to the local bearing shop and they'll sort you out for about $10.
Edit; the original Marrelli alternator on me 300Tdi had needle rollers running on the shaft at the slipring end and failed. The Bosch copy I replaced it with has proper bearings.
