Does anyone know of an organisation doing aftermarket exhausts for the TDV6. One of the disappointing things about owning a TDV6 is the rather bland exhaust note - very pedestrian.
My brother who has a TDV8 Landcruiser has a big exhaust on his and while a bit loud for my tastes it does sound so nice and did add a couple of nms to his low power engine.
Any one in Aust doing this sort of thing for the TDV6?

Any good exhaust shop worth it's salt could make one up.

Sorry to say it but no matter what exhaust you get it won't ever sound as good as a V8.

Subjective... A spooling Diesel sounds awesome.
V8s aren't all that... V10 and V12 perhaps...
V8s are just a legacy of our inner bogun:angel:

Agreed, I sure miss that sound on both of my sterile exhaust noted vehicles.
My VW has a little whistle, the D4 has the little whoosh from the waste gate (or whatever that sound is between the two turbos), but the spool sound is sweet.

My comments were in relation to Garry's observation about how good his brothers TDV8 Landcruiser sounds with a big exhaust. My point was that a V6 diesel with a big exhaust chances are wouldn't sound as good as a V8 with a big exhaust and yes a V10 more than likely will sound better again than a V8.
However As for how good a V12 diesels with a big exhaust would sound in a road registered 4x4 passenger vehicle, which this topic relates too ...well surely that is the only subjective observation in this little discussion. ...;)

Thanks Craig - looks as if you just got stuff made up and it looks as if it worked for you but just as easy could have been the opposite.
Looking for a system that is specifically made for the TDV6 (2.7) and is proven.
Cheers

Garry, not sure if they offer a system for the TDV6 but try Taipan XP. I have a Taipan XP 3" system on my TD5 and it's magic.

That's a shame, at least they are wanting to produce a system for the TDV6. Garry, maybe you should become the test subject, who knows you may end up with a free production version!!

That's not an issue for me, I just have the headache of getting the D3 down to Burleigh.

I dont think anyone worldwide plays with the exhaust on a TDV6. one of the appeals of the Disco 3 is its quietness, but ive recently switched to mud terrain tyres and all you can here is tyre noise. SOme sort of nice exhaust not would be great. Maybe something simple like deleting the rear of centre mufflers perhaps. has anyone got a youtube vid of this activity or is this sort of shinnanigans frowned upon in the TDV6

I found this re 2.7 TDV6's:
TDV6 RANGE ROVER SPORT EXHAUST PROJECT.
DESIGN CRITERIA

DEVELOPMENT
The first step in achieving our design criteria was to obtain a standard exhaust system for examination. It soon became apparent that the diameter of the original pipe-work was ok and that the large centre bypass silencer was the main area of restriction in the exhaust. With the two smaller rear silencers being of a straight thru' free flowing design already, we decided to replace the bypass silencer with a straight thru' silencer which would greatly improve flow and also bring with it a much better exhaust note. Having made our first prototype it was time to check the results.
http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/old-site/Image%20bank/Features/IMG_6209.jpg On a test drive the engine felt much more responsive and lively throughout the rev range, especially when pulling off from a standing start. This was as expected after removing the bypass silencer and replacing it with a free flowing alternative. The surprise was that the exhaust note had not changed at all and was still extremely muted. After some deliberation it was decided to remove the rear silencers to see how this affected the exhaust note. We manufactured some rear pipes without silencers and attached everything back on and set off for another test drive. The engine sounded fantastic, with the rear silencers removed the V6 engine had a low rumble very reminiscent of a petrol V8.
http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/old-site/Image%20bank/Features/IMG_6493.jpg Now that we were happy with the exhaust note as well as the increase in engine pick up we returned the car to John (customer) so that he could use it for a month to check there were no problems and confirm our feelings that the exhaust sounded great and also improved engine pick up. John's initial feedback after a week was promising, he reported the engine felt much more enthusiastic and sounded great his only worry was a slight drone from the exhaust at motorway cruising speed. We asked John to keep monitoring and come back to the workshop in a few more weeks so we could check on the exhaust.
http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/old-site/Image%20bank/Features/IMG_6562.jpg A short run on the motorway confirmed that the exhaust note was indeed a little bit too loud. We knew that two full size silencers would completely mute the exhaust so decided to manufacture some acoustic tailpipes. These are basically small silencers built into the tailpipes. Once fitted we sent John on his way to check the results. A few hours later we had a very happy customer on the phone. The acoustic tailpipes had worked banishing the drone at motorway speeds but still keeping that V6 rumble in normal driving conditions.

So it looks pretty simple to achieve, get any decent exhaust co to build a similar kit. ;)
Edit: Sorry Alan I did not see your mention of JP Exhausts, I did a search myself and came up with them too!
