Importing a Landie - experience

Hi, I am new member Stan. I am interested in a post 2007 (Puma) 110 CSW and wonder if anyone has any experience to offer (good or bad) importing a second hand one from UK. I feel there will be a lot more available there and competitively priced so as to make it worthwhile checking out?

I don't think it will be worth the bother. You can do a migration import if you have owned the car for a year and want to bring it home.

Pre 1989 is easier. On a 2007 model it would be much cheaper to buy one here, registered. If you manage to import one any savings on purchase price would be easily killed by shipping, import fees and taxes (numerous!), compliance plate, roadworthy, registration.

Simply put - it will be difficult and expensive to purchase and import a 2007 model car from the UK.

I imported my Defender 90, 1995 model, from the UK but I'd owned it for several years when I lived there. It still cost quite a lot and the Australian bureaucracy was a nightmare.

In short, I doubt it's worth doing what you have described.

So far our plans have revolved around the logistics of driving our truck overland from Oz to the UK. This thread has reminded me that we haven't spent much time looking at how we get the truck back home again and the bureaucracy involved in that :o

We have Imported a number of Land Rover into Australia, and have a couple more leaving in a few months.

All these vehicles were built before Jan 1st 1989, anything after this date you will not be allowed to Import, unless it falls into a number of specialised areas.

Ie, you have owned and can prove you have used it in the country of origin for at least a year.

Apply for a Special Vehicle Import, and have it added to the list for these types of Vehicles, however if its a standard 110 SW, you would probably be wasting your time and effort. If it was a WOLF then theres a chance you could get it in.

Import it and never use on the road is another options.

Unless you can share costs in a container and or get a pre 89 one in the UK very cheap then it can work out more expensive than purchasing here.

As for getting a vehicle back into Australia, I am in the process of putting together a 3 month trip to SE Asia for 4/6 Land Rovers, getting back in is no problem at all.

Indeed, nows your chance as the $ against the $ is getting weaker, and this will mean a increase in parts pricing too.

A number of our Australian manufactures are increasing there pricing in the coming months...
