Hi everyone,
Heading into Canberra this evening for our last night away after a trip up to Fraser Island.
I'm looking for motel & restaurant recommendations for the evening. Somewhere half decent as it's our wedding anniversary today too :)
I stayed at "the tradies" in Dickson a few years ago for work, that was pretty good, so will probably head there, unless anyone has a better idea?
Cheers.
Rohan.

How decent? My favourite place in Canberra is Brassey House. It is either Kingston or Manuka. I haven't stayed there for years. It is really old style. Could be quite pricey these days.

Tough question. Motel/hotel probably sub $200/night, restaurant, $75 a head?
Given we've been staying in pub rooms, anything clean with post 1970's furniture will be good :)

I stayed here recently Forrest Hotel and Apartments (http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g255057-d257988-Reviews-Forrest_Hotel_And_Apartments-Canberra_Greater_Canberra_Australian_Capital_Terri tory.html#REVIEWS) Very happy as rooms have recently been upgraded. Also have internal laundry if you want to throw some of your camping clothes in for a freshen up! ;)

Manuka is only a short walk and you'll find plenty of good places to eat.

You had better get on to it! accommodation in Canberra can be very hard to find when parliament is in sitting. Try the Carotel, easy to find as you enter on the Fed highway. Number is 62411157 or 62411644. I am their pest control guy and while its not posh, its clean and bed bug free! The TVs are flat screen. There is plenty of eateries just 5 mins drive away in Dickson (mainly Asian but some others too). Welcome to the ACT!

yes - Brassey is good but IMHO the ANU University House suits us best when we go for National Gallery specials - sep living room, qs bedroom, heated bathroom floor, views + full dining room sit down cooked brekky for $150-$190 / night depending on how busy they are

Can recommend the ARIA hotel,we just got back after spending a few nights there. It was spotless and has underground secure parking, with plenty of clearance. They have a deal with their sister hotel,to use their restaurant which is located just across the car park.Cost is about $155 per night food at the restaurant was good and they have a buffet all you can eat breakfast, that you can book at reception.

One thing you can be sure of, it will be cold in Canberra this time of year. I live in Townsville now.

Wasn't that warm on Fraser, but bloody hell Canberra!
At least Melbourne won't feel so bad tomorrow :)
