Suspension Fail warning light - D3 HSE

Warning, this is newbie question:

I was having a good old play with all of the functions, hill decent and of course suspension heights, ended up on mud ruts (in mud) at full height. Got the D3 on a pretty decent side lean, then gassed it out of a mud rut and I was hit with the warning light for suspension fail.

Now it could be due to the million different settings I had it on or the position I got the car into, or is this the start of something needing replacement?

Note* Turned the D3 off, and back on again and it leveled out and no warning to be seen.

From what you described it is most likely you over heated the compressor.

If you were playing with heights and adjusting things up and down sometimes the compressor overheats and cuts out to cool down causing a failure warning.

If this continues to happens regularly or you get messages saying it is raising slowly you could be up for a replacement compressor which is not cheap, unless fixed under warranty if the vehicle is new(ish).

Saying that there are threads on here about compressors and how to fix them/service them so do a search and if you are handy it appears to be a relatively easy fix.

Simply gassing it in mud on an angle should not cause any particular issues.

Unless the problem regularly occurs I wouldn't be too concerned. D3's like to throw random warning lights and faults just to keep you on your toes. Just wait until you have a battery starting to go flat, an alternator or starter motor dying:D. You will then see some good random warning lights.

The air suspension compressor does seem to have a use by date on it and will eventually fail or degrade badly. Doesn't sound like you are at that point yet unless it regularly repeats. Mention it at your next service so the fault code can be checked.

Ashes, the compressor is about a month old, was replaced prior to my purchase so fingers crossed it is just trying to keep me on my toes, or in relation to the vehicle height, not on my toes.

She did it twice in one drive and hasn't done it since.

Also is the loud purge noise that it spits out every now and then when the vehicle is at full height a normal thing?

Don't play with suspension heights - make a selection and stay with it. I appreciate easier said than done but simple if you have LLAMS fitted.

Going up and down all the time just makes the compressor work and will ultimately lead to early failure.

I think you occasionally get errors when the supension is fully articulated and you hit a bump etc. My D4 does it occasionally when off road and you need to restart the engine to clear it, as you did, although it doesn't affect anything at the time and you can keep driving. If I remember correctly, Gordon said it is to do with the computer detecting an implausible suspension height sensor reading, probably due to the travel exceeding the normal range slightly.

I am still shocked as to how much the D3 drives like a car compared to any of the 4wd's I have driven in the past. I am looking for excuses to leave work just so I can drive.
