We have only just ordered our Defender, and so we are finding this Forum absolutely invaluable as a source of useful information with respect to our coming ownership. I've bought a couple of copies of Landrover Owner International, & was wondering what the best magazine would be & where would I get it?
Cheers, Pickles.

Hi Pickles,
While living in the UK my favorite was Land Rover World, but I've not seen it on an actual news stand over here in the West.
I currently subscribe to Land Rover Monthly on the News Stand app for the iPad (only one at the time I was initially looking) and I'm contemplating Land Rover World and Land Rover International, but its just not the same as having the magazine in your hands...
Any one of the three gives you the news and lists the aftermarket suppliers. I've however not seen much lately on the Puma Defenders other than a couple inches on a charity run or sales figures here and there.
Cheers,
Lou

Land Rover Owner International is available through isubscribe.com.au posted to your house every month for $9.00 per copy.
Great reading.
Cheers, Peter

The best "magazine" is the digital one on which you asked this question, on the others you pay to look at lots of ads and bovine excrement :D
ps LR international will set you back about $15 at the newsagent.

I like LR International but it is dear. I don't think you can go too far wrong with any of them though :)
Best source of relevant information though is this very forum

Yeah, I like it too, but $14.95 a mag from the newsagent is a bit like highway robbery to me and its all pommy stuff anyway :rocket:
after a while its a repeat of the same info over and over and over again (in a different font, article heading and pictures). Save ya money and go to the local library.

The latest editions of LROI are pricey, but if you don't mind being a couple of months behind they usually get dropped to about $9-10 at the newsagents.
None of the Aussie mags do much in-depth coverage of Landys, and when they do they sometimes get it wrong.

I subscribe to Land Rover World on the iPad news stand. I used to subscribe to Land Rover Monthly on Zinio. LRW is my favourite. I have a preference for electronic distribution, so this suits me. Plus, I receive it at the time of issue.
The UK magazines are good for Land Rover info and Australian Magazines are good for info about Toyotas and adds for cheap accessories made in China. My subscription to the thickest Australian 4WD magazine finishes with the next issue. Renewal is extremely unlikely.

Hey John, how are you? Is that your old Corvette I see there? Looks nice.
Yeah that LR world looks good but only available on iphone and ipad not Macbook unfortunately. Looks like I'll have to get an ipad.
Have you upgraded the car yet?

I get Landrover Monthly...too many ads in LRI.. As for the Aussie ones 4x4
Australia is pretty good. 4x4 Action is crap, full of ads and inacurisies ( especially bout Landies) and Overlander now owned by them is much the same. Only have to look at this months Overlander to see that they don't care about getting the facts right. Ave a look at the D4 article and their 15 best bush 4x4 comparisons. They gave 2 out of 5 stars for aftermarket gear availability for the Defender!

While 4wd action seems to have more land rovers in them lately, probably because Jamie has his 130 in there a lot and no doubt spends a bit on ads,i agree that most stories about land rovers seem to be poorly researched and full of inaccuracies.Plus Roothy hates them, even though he still owns one:p.

Yeah Roothie is about the only good thing about 4WD Action. He's OK.

4wdaction use a hell of a lot of "artisitic licence" in their dvd's and their track logs show absolutely no detail. I tried finding/ following one of their really tough tracks up to the top of Jolly Nose mountain that has a comms tower on top. They showed this tough track leading to the top when in fact it's a leisurely drive. Their tough track ended in a 40m high cliff and then the track looped back down the hill. And the dvd's and mags just cater to their sponsors which is the same old stuff over and over again.
